Sounds great Shane, sure hope you can make it.

+1 on parking = big safe parking lot with lots of room.

Btw, is there a ballpark range that you guys are willing to spend per night on a hotel?

See what you can find Shane, I think availability is the big thing.
When we went east a couple years ago, we stayed outside the city and took a taxi into town, which worked quite well also. Whatever works is good.

We could then take another 2-3 days to tour the Gaspe Peninsula. Since I will be on Paternity leave, I'll have all the time in the world.

Just looking at hotel prices in old Quebec City, it looks like $150+ is the norm for that time of year. The hotel below looks nice and seems to be centrally located in old QC. It would be nice to stay in a hotel that is within walking distance to the Frontenac, shopping, and some nice dining.

^I think this the range to expect.
It's OK with us.
I still think it's a great choice, if parking can be confirmed.
- close enough to stagger back

Ok, I just got off the phone with the hotel and here is the scoop. Ian, I think it was carma that you decided to get the ball rolling on this.

The hotel is completely booked except for 9 rooms for June 30th and July 1st. According to the list of people that confirmed they were going, we will need 7 of the remaing 9 rooms. Because of this being Canada Day the rest of the rooms will book up quickly.

About the hotel: It is within the walls in Old Quebec and is walking distance to all the boutiques, shops, cafes, and restaurants. The hotel has two parking lots. One of the parking lots is onsite at the hotel, and the other parking lots is a half a block away from the hotel. Both parking lots are secured as well.

The rooms are $144 per night with Queen beds and includes a full breakfast each morning. I thought that was decently priced considering you get a full breakfast as well. Because we need 7 out of the 9 remaining rooms, I put a 24 hour hold on the rooms so I could confirm with you guys. If we decide to stay at this place, a deposit of $54.95 per room is required upon booking and the balance needs to be paid in full 15 days prior to arrival.

I personally think this is a great looking place and am up for staying here. Let me know what you guys think ASAP as I only have a 24 hour hold on the rooms.

Shane, K & I are in. I will book it tonight. PM us with any other details we need.
We might leave a few days earlier and stay somewhere on the way to QC Thursday & Friday night.

Thanks for setting this up.

Folks I'm going to throw this out there. Will anyone consider making Quebec reservations for the 1st and 2nd of July as opposed to the 30th and 1st? If that doesn't work for everyone we'll just make our reservations for one night on the 1st. H has to work all day the 29th and then we have the obligatory staff party that night followed by the 643 mile drive Saturday. That's going to make for a very long day which doesn't suit us too well.

Thanks
Deane

JMO.. but I think we should book the 2nd anyway.
with travel, 2 nights only gives you 1 day in QC.

That won't leave much time to go around the Gaspe Peninsula and take in a few sites then drive back the following weekend.

Makes sense. In our case its almost a given otherwise there will be only an evening there.

More food for thought...
The loop to Gaspe from QC & back, is only 1500 km.

Leaving QC on the 2nd, (Tues morning)...
with 4 days leasurely motoring, we would be back in QC area Friday night.

I am fine with booking July 1st and 2nd for the two nights in QC. Just let me know if that's the scoop and I'll make the changes.
