I was doing some calculations on Mapquest for the trip for me from Kincardine.

Kincardine to Quebec City = 1,016 km (631 mi).
Quebec City along the coastline around the Gaspe Peninsula to Gaspe Qc = 709 km (441 mi).
From Gaspe Qc along the rest of the coast to Robinsonville NB = 339 km (210 mi).
Robinsonville Qc to Degelis Qc to Riviere du Loup to Quebec City = 491 km (305 mi).
Quebec City to Kincardine =1,016 km (631 mi).

Total Trip = 3,571 km (2,219 mi)

This was a rough calculation to determine the distances. I can hardly wait .

Hey Wayne, that's cool. We're nearly the same distance from QC. I did a search and we're 643 miles from QC- 12 hours 1 minute.

I'm ready and raring to go too.

It's about 412 miles from my house to Quebec City. Thanks for posting the mileage, Gee35x. Good info

So we're talking about 5-7 nights of hotel stays, when it's all said and done? I'm just thinking...$100 US/night for a hotel, 7 nights...+ gas + dining out...this is going to add up really quickly. haha

Whoa, you're the close one.

Sounds about right on your costs. Bring along a partner and share the room and gas.

At least your money goes a little further. Go the bank and get some of our funny coloured stuff if you use cash.

Ya, maybe I have a shorter drive to get there, but after leaving Quebec City, you're basically on your route home. You'll travel fewer miles than I will when it's all said and done.

That doesn't deter me anyways. How much is gas right now in Canada? The American $$$ goes further up there?

I've still got a 630 mile drive to get home from Quebec City. I think I will have the longer drive.
For current gas prices you can check here: http://www.gastips.com

I'm coming from much further away (643 miles to QC) in Nova Scotia so will end up with more miles than you and possibly anyone else, unless I cut off some of the trip.

Gas prices vary by region but for premium somewhere around $.90/litre CDN. - (more where I live). In very rough numbers that's about 2.90 US per US gallon.

Using a current currency exchange a US dollar is worth about $1.18 Canadian.

Edit, just checked your gas link Wayne. That's a big help.

RBull, thanks for the info. We're about $2.45 US gallon here for 93 octane. Of course it varies regionally in the States too, but that's what I just paid to fill up on Monday night near Boston. But gas is more expensive up there in Canada, it seems.

How much are other things, like a value meal at McDonald's? I'm just trying to get a sense of the economy scale in Canada as compared to USA. $1 USA may get me $1.18 CAN, but that doesn't mean it has the same buying power.

For instance, I know that in Norway, everything costs 2-3x as much as it does here, because their economy is on a much higher scale. Minimum wage in Norway is about $15 US dollars/hour, yet it costs them $15 for a value meal at McDonald's. So it's all relative to them, but it costs American tourists a pretty penny to visit. I still recommend Norway though!

Just wondering if you guys can give me some other frame of reference for the value of the US $ in Canada.

The best currency conversion site I know of is www.oanda.com, it's been around for many years and is quite reliable.
