I've searched all the threads I could find looking for winter wheel/tire advice, some good stuff out there but I would like to know if anyone has specific experience with the Canadian Tire steel wheels for winter use. Stock 17" 5-spokes on my 03 Aero sedan, but I'd like to go with steel 16's and good quality snow tires. I know they are ugly, but so are pitted alu wheels and that's what I'll end up with if I don't get some winter hoops on there soon.
Any advice for/against?

Dont mean to hijack, well not really hijacking, just directing you to a post that i recently posted. Monitor that thread as well. It may help
I am in the same position as you
wait... u got a sedan...still monitor it for type of tire i suppose

I got 16" used winters (90%+ tred left!) with alu from a member who switched to an 07. I paid less than what it would have costed me for a set of ugly CT steel wheels. In fact it was less than a set of brand new winter tires.
Even tho it's only 16", it's def way better than having steel wheels imo. I was in the same boat as you but I'm happy with my decision.
If you plan on going with a bigger brake upgrade in the future, I would suggest getting at least 17" (racing brake) or bigger (OEM Brembo) depending on what you plan on upgrading to.

Thanks, Magic, I like that idea. Once I've paid my dues I'll post in the classifieds for some 16" OEMs. No brake upgrade planned.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that my 16's weren't OEM's, they were BSA wheels. Either way, it's for winter and I wouldn't drop too much $ for winter rims.
I'm sure you can find OEM's around, but it will be harder. Remember to get the right offsets.

Right you are Wayne, you gave me a great steal on those set of winters! I think it's definitely the best $ investment I've made so far. Came home last night from Brampton and saw 5 seperate accidents on the 401. A total of 8 OPP cruisers, 3 firetrucks, 1 idiot going 150+kms, and witnessed a guy spinning out and crashing into the wall of a bridge above me. It was nice to feel safe making lane changes with no suprises especially at those speeds.Originally Posted by GEE35X

Oh and the night ended with a ride program on the way home.
