Thumbs up Torque wrench at Cdn Tire

I was at Canadian Tire yesterday. They have their 1/2 drive torque wrench on sale for $64.99.

Just thought some of you would like to know as it seems to be a topic that comes up regularily.

Good catch, Wayne, I picked one up last time they went on half price. Seems to be a sturdy unit and came in very handy when I changed over my wheels to winters.

just picked up a SnapOn Tech Wrench.......3/8" digital torque wrench. 2% accuracy with a range of 5-100 ft-lb!!! Nissan specs the torque on the wheel studs to be 80 ft-lbs. actually, I don't think anything on this car needs over 100 ft-lbs of torque.

I think i picked up mine from HomeDepot a while back when it was on sale. Like the previous poster, the heaviest i ever need to torque is 80lbs/ft for the wheels. The prob with the one I got however was it doesn't support the lower ranges (e.g. for spark plugs etc)...
They're also pretty cheap at tirerack (30usd), but im unsure of its quality..

If you own a bigger vehicle such as a 4x4 you might have to go higher. I have to torque my truck wheels to 140 ft/lbs (it's a GMC Z71 Extended Cab P/U.)
Also a 1/2" is a bit better when you are torqueing 80 ft/lbs or more because they are longer and therefore you have more leverage and it is easier to use at the highers ratings.
I do have a 3/8 dr besides my 1/2" drive for doing lower torques.

Thanks, Wayne - that's a good deal too. I saw that their 3/8th drive wrench is also on sale.......

Got mine from Princess Auto last year on sale for $25. Reg price was $89.99 I believe... But it's still working fine to this day, I've used it many times at track and changing to winter tires.

Crossmember bolts are suppose to be torqued to 120lb/ft btw. Lucky for me, mine goes up to 150 lb/ft, came in handy when installing the Tanabe Underbrace.

^ +1 with above.
Also, don't forget to re-torque after 50-100km.
As the wheel & rotor re-seat themselves you will often find one or two loose nuts when you re-torque

Got mine at....

If you don't have a torque wrench in your tool box you should never work on
your G35! Almost all major nuts/bolts have torq requirements, my wheel
lugs are set at 80 too. I got my torque wrench at Sears several years ago
so I don't recall the price. That Snap On wrench is the best on the market,
it actually beeps when setting is reached, way more fun than a click....

Too many of them do. You drive down the street with a jiggle in your wheel.
