I am not sure what the roads are in other cities in Canada, but Saint John's roads and highways are absolutely brutal this spring. I am guessing that all of the freezing and thawing over the winter is the cause of it. It's the worst I've seen the roads in many years. Some of the potholes are big enough to lose a damn Smart Car in. And it's not just the potholes either, the frost heaves are equally terrible. The road crews will definitely be having a busy spring. It's a miracle that I haven't developed any rattles in the G driving over these roads everyday.

 

I hear you, Shane.....The roads here have never been as bad as they are now.
I'm constantly scanning for p/holes and avoid puddles like the plague.....

Road crews have one heck of a fix up this spring.....

I've heard a few of the GTA guys complaining of flattened tires and damaged rims.
Definitely have to watch for those craters, as you say, some could swallow a car, a lot of our roads are flooded right now also.

 

Yes, our city has said it's been the worst year in recent memory. They had some stats in the paper on the number of potholes fixed this winter.....many thousands and most of those were done many times over. Frost heaves don't seem to be bad here in town but on some country roads I've been on they really are.

We were on the island about a month ago. Now those roads were BAD.

At least the weather is changing. Our snow is gone once again and it's 7 degrees out now.

The highways are a minefield of potholes today.

I think it's a combination of the hard winter &
I don't thing the new recycled paving methods stand up as well.
Some of the worst sections are where pavement is only about 2yrs old.

 

screw flat tires and bent rims, folks have been loosing wheels, even whole suspension assemblies.

my car's going into the shop either this week or next, most if not all the bushings in the suspension need to be replaced, including the compression rods.

i thought my shocks were gone, was just the small things.

went down to my folk's in the country, frost heaves were so bad that you would catch air at 15km/h. my neck hurt for a few days.

though there's now precedence for suing the city for car damage caused by potholes the city is aware of and hasn't fixed yet.

It sounds like the roads are equally horrible where the rest of you guys are.

 

All I can say is, thank God I don't drive a Smart car!!!

If a Smart car hit some of these craters,
the driver would need the rescue truck to help him climb out.

 

I smoked a massive pothole about 1 week ago. Sratched by rear 18'' rim. The worst part was that it was unavoidable and on the off-ramp (ie. couldnt slow down or swerve). Ill defintely be spending a little bit of my tax refund on fixing these rims.

 

About a month ago, there was a two lane closure in Richmond Hill, as I inched closer in the remaining lane... I see that it was blocked off because of 1 and half lane long sinkhole...

 

LOL Ian --- I'm sure I saw a smart of 2 in a couple of craters around here.....

I cant believe how many pot holes there are in the GTA...

 

I drove the G into TO wknd before last. Won't do it again for a while. Soooo much crap,stones, dust, potholes and ..............
I'll use the Van until things get cleaned up some.

 

Im going to have to get my windshield replaced, two huge cracks on it, so many rocks on the highways

 

That's OK, the city doesn't have to fill them in when that happens - other cars can just drive across the top.
