Obviously as so many have encountered there are issues with the compression rods. In my case it was just a frayed belt.

my experience:

I think my LCA is also gone (as per the stealership). Nissan wants $595 to replace the front left LCA and to do (what they refer to as a 'required') wheel allignment. Do you have to do an allignment when changing the LCA?

I asked what would happen if i just lived with the noise and was told that "your wheel could fall off". Is this a total lie? As annoying as it is, can i just live with the noise and wait to replace it? Also, if the left side is gone is it only a matter of time for the right to go? I'm asking b/c if i buy the parts online should I just buy both sides now and change them both???

From the number of posts on this thread it sounds like we should get a group buy of LCA's!!!!

I'm getting my left one replaced by Vic at Simone's in Newmarket. I just changed all my fluids, tune up and a complete brake job with him three weeks ago. He ordered the part and will install it as well as do an alignment for bout 6 bills before the discount ( cuz I dropped a wad on the G last time I was in ).
BTW his alignment is 130. So the price seems comparable to the stealership, but the trust factor is huge.

I got both my left and right compression rods replaced last week at my friends garage. Parts were 412, labour was roughly 175.

I decided to get a second opinion from my mechanic. He hoisted the car up and we both looked at the LCA, it wasn't loose and it looked to be fine? VERY strange. My mechanic said that he couldn't see anything wrong with the suspension. I know i hear a raddling noise on the left side on uneven roads but now I'm not so sure if the LCA is the problem.... any thoughts?

Did you examine the bushing, I think the bushing is the only thing that gets damaged or torn on the compression rod since besides that it is just a metal rod. However, since you would need a machine to press a new bushing on the rod, most people just replace the entire part.

He looked at the bushing and I saw him trying to see if there was movement there by pulling the wheel. He said he didn't notice any problem with the bushing.

The rubber holding the bushing gets torn away.

In my quote for the job it includes, rod, bushing( $12 ), labour and alignment.

Yeah, you'll be good Sam. Vic obviously knows what he's doing and a lot more than I do. I haven't seen it in person but I was told by my dealer it's the rubber the bushing is mounted in breaks apart. The new ones are a little different design and beefier. There is a pic in the other thread

I heard a sound a few weeks ago and thought my drivers side was gone. Apparently it's in fine shape. I believe the noise was from my sway bushings so may have to lube them up.

Well the noise from going over small bumps was just driving me crazy!

I decided to just change the Lower Control Arm at the dealership. Just picked up the car. It's fixed Honestly, it's like driving a brand new car (kinda) now. I'm sooooo happy the noise is gone.

Total cost: $470 + tax.

Where is the compression rod?

Just had my compression rods replaced on my 2005 G35X and was curious where it's located. I looked under the car around the front tires but didn't know which one was the compression rod. On the G35X the compression rod is apparently steel vs aluminum so I think it's painted black like the rest of the suspension. Any links to a suspension diagram or photo?

Is the compression rod the same as the lower control arm that some are having trouble with?
