Quote: Ok you made me a believer that all filters are not the same...

Now....Example: If car A uses FRAM synthetic filters and any brand synthetic motor oil compared to Car B that ONLY uses OEM filter and Mobil 1 oil.

Will car B last longer, run better, faster etc… than car A?
You're looking for a magic potion that isn't there from different oil and filters. To me it's a little like asking if a Saville Row suit will make you sell better and be more physically fit. No, however the suit may last longer because of superior cloth or tailoring and you feel better having bought the best. LOL

However, better quality filters and oil will contribute to a longer lasting engine all other things being equal.

Faster - No
Run better - No

Quote: Would you use a condom that has a poor CR rating?
I mean it would still protect ....right?
As long as the condom passes all tests and regulations and the peformance/feel will be the same and it protects why not?

Quote: you feel better having bought the best
I think it all has to do with branding do you really need a $$$$$+ suit?
NO
Will it make you feel better?
YES

But that's about it, I think people get brainwashed to easily by the power of branding, I am guilty myself
Yes the Seville Row suit will last longer but for the price you can buy a couple of suits back to the topic OIL all I’m trying to say/ask "Is there a point to buying >$40 jug of synthetic oil compared to <$40 jug of synthetic oil?"

Don't look so much into the cost of the oil, but rather the the grade (class 3 vs 4) and type of blend. For instance, Mobil 1 in recent times has dropped from class 4 to class 3, and is now an inferior product to what it once was - what this means is that you will get less protection. Of course that extra protection can prove either significant or neglible depending on the way you drive, climate conditions, etc. Since I like to be ready for anything, I try and go with one of the best (Amsoil ASL 5w30).

It's clear our analogies are lost on you. Your selective quote changes the connotation of my statement.

Haha, just gearing ya on the Row. I've never even seen a suit from there, let alone owned one, but it's a great analogy.

Since I do my own oil changes, I use the money saved and spend it on a premium oil+filter combo. The way I see it, spending an extra few bucks on a better filter is worth the piece of mind since you know you have quality parts working in probably the most critical part of your engine (lubrication system). I want this baby to last.
