cheaper gas?

i know that gas prices has dropped alot recently but i have been noticing i been getting less km a full tank. is this happening to everyone because of the weather? in the back of my mind tells me that YES, the gas is lower but i think the gas stations might be scamming us and giving us cheaper gas.

Yes, cold weather always robs you of fuel economy. It's the added time for engine warm and likely more idling.

I'm not a believer in a blanket low quality gas conspiracy/paranoia.

I'd say it's like Deane says: Longer warm times and related issues.
We run windshield defrosters/defoggers almost constantly now in winter months which is similar to running your A/C in the summer--- (the a/c part of defrosting is used to dehumidify the intereior of the car)...

......Also using more electrical appliances such as blowers, rear defoggers, seat and sterring wheel warmers will put more load on the alternator causing more of a drag on the engine.

Slippage in snow and ice, engagement of VDIC systems -- all these things add up to more gallons per miles than in the summer or should that be more liters per hundred kilometers....

Cheers, and spring is on the far horizon......

Colin.

It's probably a combination of all of the above. I know when I was paying $1.45 I drove differently.

My Titan recently got 50km to a 1/4 tank of gas It usually gets 500-600 per tank. I hate the cold and warm it up for at least 1/2hr every morning. I usally keep in running all day too as I am in out of it all day long for work.

Winter gas often has alcohol mixed in as a "bonus" gas-line antifreeze. Depending on the concentration your consumption will increase due to the lower BTU content in the alcohol portion of the fuel. Combine that with longer warmups (engine spends more time running rich) and PRESTO! poor economy.

Premium $0.83 in YYC today.

Filled up twice yesterday. Once before I headed out to TO and then again upon my return. $.74 for 91. 22l for 210 km. The round trip cost me $22, a bargoon. Near the limit for 90% of the trip . Nice to be out on dry roads.
Have a safe and prosperous New Year everyone.

Hey, weren't you the one who recommended I put bags of sand or salt in my trunk?? lol. Added weight will kill your fuel economy too.

Yup, rather kill fuel economy than anything/one else. I once stopped 4 cm short of where I needed to. Went that far into a bus, could tell because the bus doors told the story. My van ended up where the rear doors were/used to be and towards the back ... and did LOTS of damage to the bus and the car. Luckily, no personal injuries.

The day I paid less than $2 for gas, the following fill ups showed a drop from 19-20mpg to 15-16mpg... of course it's been colder here in Colorado everyday.
