He is a 6.25 cap hit, more than Corey Perry or the sedeins. They could have used the money and the cap hit to go out and sign an impact player that will be around for more than 1-2 years tops. He will provide some needed leadership but other players in that price/cap hit range could have to? I guess the good news is they didn't give up anything for him.

I think this is a great pickup for Edmonton because of the leadership Smyth provides. It will be great for the younger players to learn how a true leader acts like in the NHL dressing room.

In my opinion, leadership is the most-over rated "quality" in hockey. Especially when it has a cap hit of 6 mil.

Have you played at a high level. It's very, very important. I've played and coach. The difference between a team with and with out great peer leadership is like night and day.
History should provide enough proof if you think about it.

I am going to say they could have got a younger more skilled player with leadership for what they will pay/cap hit Smyth costs.

Anyway a friend of mine Josh green signed with the oilers this week, he will most likely end up in Oklahoma City but it would nice to see him play 20 games or so with the Oil

I thought Stamkos signed with the Lightning for 7.5mil/year for 3 years. I doubt he want to go to Toronto usually guys that can go anywhere want to go to a contender not a cellar dweller

They're getting closer but I don't think he's signed yet.

Devils or Kings?

Best NHL comeback of all time (IMO)?
or
Best NHL Cinderella story ever? No 8th seed ever won the cup.

I bet a friend that Jersey would take it so I'm rooting for them. The bet is for a Subway lunch combo so I won't be too heartbroken is they can't claw their way back. LA is a good team
