Winter olympics

It is past time for this thread.

Any bets on Canada winning our first gold at home at the Vancouver Olympics?

I'm saying there's going to be plenty of hardware and of the gold colour too.

What about that hockey game last night....record goals.

I've pretty much been watching the Olympics non stop since the opening ceremonies on Friday night. That hockey game last night was something else. 18-0 and out shot Slovakia 67-9.

Good to see another medal today for Canada going to Groves!

I'm pumped for hockey only bc there's some great teams out there. With so much talent in one place its only a matter of time before we see some real good quality hockey!

Absolutely....
Can't wait for downhill later today

re the mens freestyle;
I sure was happy that Dale Begg-Smith didn't win it.
Mr. Internet spyware can go stuff it.

I watched some of the CBC coverage last night and LOL'd over Peter Mansbridge whining about not getting his accustomed access now that CTV is official broadcaster this year.

Oh, and those mogul bashers:

He's done a good job of making Canadians dislike him.

^ absolutely! there's a few sports that i hold in higher regard then others, Moguls being one of them, Curling not so much. the athleticism & physicality of moguls is awesome to watch, and appreciate. i have much respect for athletes who push their bodies to the limit. sure, their knees will be mangled by the age of 30, but that's the price they pay - and if it was easy anyone could do it. i have skied since i was 3, and consider myself an advanced skier. but the show the men & women moguls athletes put on makes it clear how much training and natural ability is required to perform at such a level.

i was at the men's Luge event Saturday & Sunday. great show as well. standing at the finish line yesterday was a blast. my cousin is on the Canadian Luge team so it was great to cheer him on in person. unfortunately the speeds were down a bit since the men started from the women's "start area". this was due to the death in training on friday of the Georgian athlete. nevertheless, it's still an extreme sport that leaves casual observers awe-struck by the speed of a human flying down a sheet of ice on a little sled.

tons of free stuff in Vancity & Whistler as well for those who can't afford an event, the line-ups are free as well. although there are plenty of events that are economical - Luge at $30, skier-cross at $50. of course i'd love to see some hockey, but i have a hard time justifying $1500 for a decent game. HD TV on a big screen with a bunch of friends is almost as good...
