G35 Flip key

Hey guys,

I've been following the other thread in the coupe forum for a while. I was never happy with the unrealibility of this mod, and the lack of ease in which this could be done. But my key and fob were looking really nasty after 7 years. I always hated having to carry around a fob and a key - I just wanted something that is all inclusive that I can shove in my pocket and not have it stab me or jingle around.

With a little searching, I found this. This is what I bought,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-F...item414728231d

I bought one of these and took my old transponder out of the OEM key and put it in this one. The electronics from the old fob fit perfectly in this housing and it comes with new rubber buttons. I just took it apart, took the key blank out and brought that and my old key to the local hardware store and they cut the blank for 2 dollars. Works like a treat, feels great in my hand, isn't too big and looks awesome. This took me all of 10 minutes to do once it arrived - no fuss no muss.

You be the judge

Hey, that's pretty cool!

I might consider doing this.

Don't our keys have a chip in it?

Does this thing feel alright in your hand? It doesn't really have that great ergonomic look that the Audi/VW flip keys have.

Awesome, gonna get this, which hardware store did you go to?
I always thought you had to go to Infiniti to cut keys.

What does the back look like, in the ebay pic, there's a hollow area where the nissan thing should be.

Yah, what he said!
hahaha!

I also thought Infiniti had to cut your keys, but seeing as there's no physical chip within the OEM metal key itself (from what I can see), I guess it's just like getting any house key made/cut are your local hardware store?

if you try turning on your car 3 time with a straight cut key that hasnt been programed your ECU will lock itself and you'll have to tow your G to the dealer to have it reprogrammed. it still has to be programmed, had mine done at infiniti for $59 2 days ago

Actually it fits quite nice. It's not like I hold onto it alot - it is just a key. Fits nicely in my pocket and doesn't take up a lot of room.
