Thumbs up My Oil Consumption Experience

Well, I have to admit, Hyatt made me happy today.

I just finished the 3,000 km test. The photo attached shows my measurement at 2,444 km into the test. Based on the TSB, they ordered me a new short block which should be here next week. The repair/replacement is supposed to take two days.

The test itself was painless. I didn't even have to kick and scream to get them to do it either.

What are peoples experiences with this kind of repair? What should I look out for? I've never had anything this major done on any of my cars before.

That is very good news William. From what we can see it looks like about 2 cms. What is that in litres? I thought it needed to be more than 1 litre per 1000km.

I don't have any experience with with the repair but hopefully others will chime in. Likely you're not the first one they've done though. Neither of my Infinitis used any oil and my Nissan doesn't either.

I don't know what that is. I thought it was one litre between the L and H marks, but I don't know for sure. The service bulletin does talk about litres/distance, just millimetres per mileage group. BTW, I'm Wayne #2 Calgary branch.

Yup, that's what I read it as. Even giving them 18mm, I'm in the No Good area on the graph.

^I'm thinking of changing my name so I can be W4.

And I always thought the gap between L and H was a litre too.

I'm about a week and a half into my oil consumption test. I was using synthetic, wasn't due for my next oil change for 2 months(my mechanic recommended 6 month intervals), my oil light actually flickered on after a hard corner. There was barely anything registering on the dip stick. I'm hoping for a new engine also. I'll keep you guys posted.

Phu, good luck. But it sounds similar to my car so you should be getting a new one too.

oil consumption

Hey I have and 06 coupe 6mt I'm pretty sure mine is burning oil as well, checked the stick about 3 weeks ago and it was near the H now is getting close to the L any dealership you recommend bringing it to in the GTA area i'm closer to the east end. Also wondered if getting the short block is worse off performance and resale wise for the car. You think the newer model would have less problems

Sorry about the name Wayne.

It would be interesting to see what the volume is. You're right many manufacturers used 1 litre as the amount between full and add. It seems Infiniti seems to be a lot more - at least double that.

Now THERE is a post I never thought I'd read from you, haha!! Glad to hear, and best of luck with the replacement. Almost a shame since you have so few KMs on it.

Got a phone call from Devon at Hyatt yesterday. My short block arrived, but bad news is that it's not a two day swap. My car goes in for the week on October 25th and I get a nice shiney loaner.

I meant to ask her about my grounding kit and my K&N. Will they put those back as they found them, or should I take them out and put it back later? I'll have to give them a call back and find out.

I'm definately swapping the grill back out for stock for winter anyway. The rocks would chew it up.

Taking the car in tomorrow morning for the swap.

I have to admit, I'm very nervous about the whole thing.

Just to avoid any potential complications, I would get rid of the grounding kit and k&n. At best, theyd probably just charge you time to remove and replace it. At $125/hour, what's your tine worth.
