I want some snails, this altitude sucks!

Wanted to get a baseline and the A/F tightened up a bit. Sunny (Airboy) mentioned that the data coming back for the fuel base schedule didn't seem right and didn't want to lean it out too much without contacting Cobb's first. I have no idea what that meant, he tried explaining it. It's not a huge deal as I wasn't expecting any gains.

I chuckled after the first pull, thinking of the claimed 300hp

It's the beginning for this car, and the end of my wallet.

I had a similar experience in Red Deer when they put all my new parts on in March of last year. I was expecting to be touching 300hp, or about 250-260 at the wheels at least... nope- fell pretty flat. I think I managed 220 or so at the wheels after dumping 6k in parts and assembly- which didn't even bring me up to stock hp. I'm quite happy to be at sea level right now- it's probably the cheapest mod I've done for the car...

Pretty soon, altitude ain't gonna matter so much.

huh... so much for the factory horse power numbers... kind of depressing when you look at it.

The factory numbers are for the engine with no accessories, not at the wheels but the factory numbers are very optimistic.

I did 230 at the wheels with a intake spacer, CAI, catback exhaust and A little tune with a n SAFC (they don't control timing) that likely didn't do much iF anything.

How is air boy I have heard some stories.......did he tune your car or just run it on the dyno?

The altitude is 3442ft above sea level.

The car is completely stock...well has a stillen z-tube on it...wow..

Ya he tuned it as much as he was comfortable with. Again, something with the base fuel schedule didn't look right to him. So he adjusted the air/fuel but didn't touch the ignition timing because of it. He might have fooled around with the MAF as well. Giant excel spreadsheets and graphs is all I could make of it...

There was a heavily modded STi waiting in the back. Guy from VEX brought it over to get tuned, apparently it was at the world of wheels this year. He also mentioned that they used to use Osiris but dropped it becauase of too many problems, which seemed odd considering how many people have had success on here.

Unfortunately that's hardly surprizing. Though the elevation is one thing, all the weight our cars drivetrain packs with it hinders any hope of making nice numbers. I'm fairly confident in saying between flow and unsprung weight, the vq is able to achieve about 280 wheel without boost.

^ that's been done, but definitely not with ease. You need basically every bolt on engine mod and a really good tune to get anywhere close to 300 at the wheels.

But really, "280" from the factory isn't as optimistic as some companies. Hyundai for instance says their 3.8L Genesis is a 304 or 305HP car yet on the dyno it puts down closer to 220-230, that makes Nissan look like a pessimist with their numbers lol

He squeezed out a few more horsepower and tq. I honestly wasn't expecting anything though, just to have the map cleaned up a bit.

True enough. NA horse power with the VQ is difficult for everyone aside from Sasha from SG motorsport and people who buy his longtubes. Haha.

The easiest and probably cheapest way to make power is a Vortech supercharger. Look for a used kit if your jonesin. Or, buy my sweet old turbo Toyota
