if 225/50R17s are not available, should i go for 215/55 or 225/55

Hello

I finally decided to try the Continental Extreme winter contact for this year's winter rubber, but for some reason none of the retailers have the 225/50R17 in stock.

so what would you folks suggest for size alternatives (225/55 or 215/55) and to avoid a staggered setup for the winter, ill be buying all 4 of the same size.
These will be going on a 06 G35c.

Using this tire calculator link

- With 225/55 all around, the fronts will be 2.88% off in diameter and 0.23% off in diameter for the rears.

- With 215/55, the fronts will be 1.3% off in diameter and 1.39% off for the rears.

Looking @ the nos. going with 215/55 seems like the logical choice, im only concerned it will be too skinny and the load index for 215/55 is 98T, while 225/55 is 101T.

I would want to stay with 225/50 as i have had these on for the last 3 winters. but in order to do this, i would either have to go with Hankook w310 or Gislaved Nordfrost 5 (these are within my budget ).

So, what you guys think..?

Traction should be quite alright with 215's, and that size is closer (by your numbers) to OEM.

That's what I would go with provided your calculations are correct.

The narrower tire will bite into the snow better. A wider tire will snowplow more easily.

If you're concerned about speed rating and load rating then get the same rated tires but to my mind a 'T' rated tire is good for 190 kph and should get the job done fine.

My OEMs are the 18s (225/45 and 245/45) and thats wht i used as the base for the calculations.
Im just concerned, if there could be any stability issues due to reduction in the overall contact surface, if i go with 215s for winter rubber.

Is any 1 running 215/55 on a coupe..?
