Concerned about the G.......

Lately with the colder temps I have been noticing if I open the car ( 08' G 6MT) up and quick shift from 2nd to 3rd gear and so on i'm getting noticeable clutch slip! This has never happened to me in the warmer months, the odd thing is if I quick shift from 1st to 2nd i have no slip at all I could spin the wheels from 1st to 2nd at will. Another test i've done is if i'm at high RPM's in the same gears and i switch slower or normally its fine and pulls hard.

I've been in cars where the clutch was slipping and it slips in all gears not to mention the smell of burnt clutch so I don't know what to do, I know if I bring it to the Rapists "dealership" they'll just say its not covered under warranty and try to convince me I need to replace my clutch. Is anyone having this problem? Could it be the clutch fluid is more dense in the colder months paired up to the rev match when upshifting? Am I shifting too quick?

I very rarely get into that area of speed unless I'm merging onto the highway ..... it kind of gives me an excuse to floor it. Any advice would be great

IIRC there have been some cases of clutch slave units going bad.
I would think cold weather might make it worse.
If it's holding in low gears it can't be the clutch, ....sounds like hydraulics to me Roy.

Clutch slippage is usually noticed first in the highest gears due to the torque being able to overcome the clutch engagement. In lower gears the ratio masks the slippage to an extent.

But still, odd that it's slipping being so new.

If it's so cold that the clutch fluid is stiff, you'd probably notice the pedal is hard to move. If so, time to switch the fluid in the clutch and brake systems.

My '08 6MT coupe has the most rank smell if you slip the clutch too much.

lol no I don't shift like that all the time but if I'm going through the gears quickly (accelerating fast) I think most if not all people wiyld be shifting quicker than driving normaly around town. I noticed it first when passing a couple of cars on a back road a couple of months ago then noticed it yesterday when merging on the highway.

@ Sylvan Lake, no its not wheel spin I thought that to at first.

Maybe this Sat I'll take a trip to Guelph Infiniti so see what they say.

Good luck with your stealer trip - hope it's nothing serious.

FWIW, I rarely run the 6MT through the gears anymore unless I get the pole*. Usually 2/4/6 when in in traffic when launching on anything from downhill to a slight uphill, and 1/3/5/6 on steeper uphill. The 3.7 is such a torque monster...

*then I usually blow the carbon out with some 'maximum volumetric efficiency', redline shifts,

Same with my '11...nasty odour. It's happened twice now and I hope never again.

Roy - have you ever changed the fluid?

That might be a hint that yours isn't slipping, IDK. It would probably make the same hideous odour as ours if it where slipping, mind you, mine happened while I had not fully engaged the clutch and the RPMs were pretty high (6-7k).

Mine did it worst one time when I launched hard and forgot to stop feathering the clutch. Pulled into a line of traffic and the smell was appalling. I'd smelled it once or twice before when reversing up my driveway.
