Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
Ok, i just got back from Wheel-Direct.
Here is the news: According to them, the BSA 264 WILL clear the brembo, provide G35C 6MT drivers an alternative choice other than CSA Gladiator.

The price for set of four 17x8 will be 950. (Tax included)
BSA 264 with Pirelli W210 225 50 17 / 235 50 17 for $2000 (cash deal).
For those who is thinking about getting 18" tires to replace the original pilot sport, they are selling Bridgestone Blizzak LM22 225 45 18/245 45 18 for $1260.
If many people are interest in this i will talk to them for group buy possibility. (I already talk down the price for a bit already, it was originally 2150) Not sure if they will lower the price furthur though.

Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
Thanks for getting pricing on this. The rims look great. I'm thinking of 18" snows for the original rims and upgrading to 19" or 20" rims with tires next spring.
Looking at SammyJL's 20" Maya's is totally sick! Especially from the rear. Not to mention that lip, man..I can have dinner on it!!
How much do you think I can sell my 18" Micheline Pilots used for one summer (13,000 km)?

Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
For those who already get 17" winter tire setup, i'm wondering if the trunk will fit four 18s stock wheels/tires. I'm getting the 17"s really soon but i'm worry about that the trunk is too small for the 18s stocky.
Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
I am undecided between 17s and 18s. Does anyone know if there will be a 'true' difference between the two? If there isn't, I would much rather save the money and put winter tires on the stock rims. However, safety comes first of course. I will be driving on the 404 everyday to goto work. Any recommendations?
BTW, this forum has led to the best experience I have had in owning a car. (I've had two generations of BMWs before this and also currently own an Audi.) I want to thank all contributors for their insight and experiences.

Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
Well, the reason i go for 17s because our 18s stocky looks great, but the paint on the wheel is easily scratched. I really don't want to risk my 18s wheel in bad winter condition. Since each rim will cost a lot to be fix or replace. Plus, there is only 600 difference between 18s tire and the 17 wheel and tires setup.
Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
hey tdotG
i have the same dilemma, but i figure that 1200 just for 18 inch tires plus what say around another 150 to install them and then come the spring another 150 to re-install and balance the summer tires you're upto 1500 +/- a few bucks.
so i think i'm gonna go with 17 inch wheels and the hankook tires for around 1500 total, i know they are not as good as the blizzaks but how much worse could they be, plus they are V rated and not H.
just my $.02...........any comments anyone?

Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
Personally I would not try any cheap snow tire anymore.
Two years ago, I got a set of Pirelli 160 Q rated snow tire for my Volvo S40. But I couldn't feel any difference between the snow tire and my MXV4 all-season tires in term of snow traction.
Two months after the installation, I've involved in an accident caused by oversteering (yes, oversteer happened in a fwd vehicle..). No one was injuried, but I have to get a new 15" Volvo rim(bloody $600 for 15"). And I decided to get another set of new Pilot Alpin tire.
I chose Pilot Alpin this time because I was using them on my Bimmer and it performed very well (way better than S40). And after I put them onto my S40, the difference is like night and day..........but Pilot Alpin is expensive though.....

Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
Exactly, winter wheels is not where you want to be skimping on or trying to look good. a skinner 17" wheel will help alot over our stock 18s.
if you want to save some money, get 17" steel rims. you don't need to go very fast in the winter anyways.

Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
as far as it stands right now, steel rims are not available for the brembo'd coupe.
I am getting the LM22's for the 18s for a few reasons, I want the best winter tires. I want my car to look good in winter too and I know that if I hit a curb or whatever ... the last thing I am going to be worried about is the rim, with the aluminum components in the suspension.
I plan on driving minimally and on the clearest surfaces possible...
if I had 17s with other rubber, than I know I would be just as careful, but not just as safe or save more theoretically in a bad situation, well, yes only if the rim was damaged, but that if very unlikely if you hit something.
either way 1200 bucks installed balanced and out the door.
thats what I am doin.

Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
Hey DallyCurtis,
I'm planning exactly what you're doing. What are LM22's? And where are you getting your deal from? I'm going to install snow's on my stock 18 rims over Brembo's.
Then the 20" rims will go on next spring (Yeah baby).
Thanks

Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
I'm still undecided between 17" BSA264 or CSA Gladiator. But i have to get the snow tire really soon, it's freezing out there! (i think it actually snows today)
Saridi, you get your CSA /w LM22 from Greenbay tire for 1900 including tax and installation? Do you have their phone number or whom i should speak to? Thanks.

Re: Canadian Winter Wheels/tires
Just installed my winter tire today. And those guys in GreenBay tire told me the distributor didn't have any CSA Gladiator left. So I think the only way you can get those rims is buy it from wherever have them in stock(e.g. Infiniti of Yorkville)
