Too much compound.

Well my wifes car got ding 2 weekends ago and to make matters worse some of the paint was removed. Without any worries I decided to repair the damage myself as I had a similar problem with my BMW and was a able to touch up the area using the same technique.

I used touch up paint from Infiniti and rubbing compound from paintscratch.com i waited a two days for the paint to cure before using the rubbing compund. Keep in mind this is all by hand. After using the rubbing compound for a minute or two the paint went from Diamond Graphite to white. Could i have gone through the clear coat? Could this be buffed out by a professional?

Thanks for any advice.

You're into the primer, the white is primer and that discolored ring around it is where you've gone through the clear, but not into the primer. If feels smooth, right? Further buffing will only make it worse. Options are:

1) Blow out. A professional will try to match the area using an air gun.

2) Touch up, wetsand, buff. A professional will slowly raise the paint up with touchup then sand and buff it.

3) Repaint.

4) Just put a blob of touchup over it all and leave it alone.

The problems with 1 and 2 is they are a) hard to do, b) might not look perfect, c) take a long time. The pros are they are cheaper then a repaint. The problem with 4 is it looks ghetto. Pro is it costs nothing. Of course a repaint will cost the most; pros are it'll look like new if done right.

i would give it a few coats of touch up. And once that done try and wetsand it a little and see how it ends up. then give it a coat of wax if it looks fine. If not, i might recommend doing the following, dab some touch up paint on it and give it enough so it covers the area, let it dry and wait a few days for it to dry, even if it looks horrible. Get some nail polish remover and try to sorta flatten it out, no clear = it eats that paint. I had someone hit my fiberglass kit, and i did this. Im not sure if its the material, but when i removed the paint with the polish remover, it had tainted the material just enough to make me satisfied. It doesnt look brand new, but people wont notice it, looks like its just a little dirty.

just my advice, not a pro or anything

Waxing will not help this. You could try leveling it with touchup, it's worth it since if you mess up you will need a repaint anyway. I personally think you're just going to make the area with no clear larger if you do any sort of sanding or buffing. Sorry.

Okay, I decided to have a professional look at it and take care of a couple of other scratches around the front/rear bumper and side skirts. I'm tell you guys why do women want nice cars if they cant even take care of it.
