that sucks. must be etched into the clear coat. you can try claybar, scratchx, and wax. if that doesn't work you have to polish.

Been there, done that...

Hello, sahiwal007:

Same thing happened to me; here's how I fixed it:

Nice write up on that bird etching removal jgrasty! You took the best approach possible, using the least aggressive method possible to get the job done. A lot of detailers would have jumped right into the SSR2.5 and removed more clear coat than was necessary.

Great pics of a nicely detailed G

I would go with izmir41500's recommendation to go with Meguiars ScratchX which can be found at any local automotive store. This is a light abrasive polish that needs to be applied with some pressure to get results from it. Afterwards be sure to protect that area with your favorite sealant or wax.

I'd recommend doing the repair work yourself. If you take the time to do it properly yourself, you will more than likely do a much better job than the local dealership detailer, and it's significantly cheaper.

Let us know if you have any questions on anything.

there arent too many dealerships who do good Prep work/detailing so i would suggest you took care of the problem yourself. Usually a dealer would just use some strong abrasive compound and remove your clear coat...i speak from experience working at 1 and seeing what goes on...

you might have to do it multiple times and make sure you rub it in with pressure.if not you will have to polish it out.

Yep, this is a fine polish that doesn't have much bite to it. I've read in some instances where people needed to apply upwards around 8 - 10 coats of it to effectively remove a scratch or other imperfection. What is it doing when you say it ruins your car?

This would be a great time to invest in a Porter Cable, the proper pads and some quality polishes!

Congratulations on the new purchase! You would be fine to give it your first wash as soon as you like. In fact you could give it a complete detail even on day 1. The vehicles paint is baked at the factory which gives the paint the fastest possible curing time. By the time you get the vehicle, the paint is fully cured and ready to be treated and protected.

I'd encourage you to read thru the Ask a Professional Detailer thread, as it covers a lot of great topics including specifically addressing swirled Obsidian Black paint.

If you have any questions on anything, please do not hesitate to ask.
