rear tint has lifting..dealer said no fix possible

My dealer installed rear tint has what appears to lifting in certain places at the top of the window. The installer at the dealer said its because of the "Matrix" which he said is where the window has the darker color with white dots in it at the top...said it can't be fixed. Any opinions? Pingo

dont think so
dot matrixes are hard to tint over and the tint doesnt seem to stick to them very well
some installer dont even tint over them and just cut the tint at the start of it
hope that helps

Re: rear tint has lifting..dealer said no fix possible

I have a sedan, but I have some spots on my rear window tint, that only show up under certain light, I took it back to the tint place, and the guy couldn't see anything, and neither could I at that time, I keep going to run it back once more, but everytime I clean the window, I think, geez, this is really hard to get to, maybe it's extremely hard to tint then as well, I may just live with it, we'll see!

The dot matrix will push the tint up, but you can wait about a week after the tint job, and go back to the shop to have them push it down. It will reduce the silvering along the dot-matrix.

I plan to have mine done at autotrim design and they said they now use a spray coating instead of film in those areas when needed, and then tint as usual next to it. Although they said the minimal bits on my sedan shouldn't be a problem anyhow.

A good installer will know how to lay tint down on the black dotted areas. Mine came out fine. I used a company called Wintech. Their website is wintechtinting.com. They do a very professional job and work a lot of dealership cars. Ceramic tint rocks!

Before your installer applied the tint he should of scrubed the area with a 3m scotch pad.

how much did you get your ceramic tint job for? how is the tint holding up? can you notice a significant heat difference?

The ceramic tint is very nice but not quite as dark as I wanted it. I was looking for something limo-like. I got the Ceramic 30 all the way around. In any case, it blocks heat insanely good. When they come out for the install, make sure they bring the test box. The test box has a heat lamp which demos the ceramic tint vs conventional tint. On one side with the conventional, I could feel the heat pretty strongly coming through the box. He rotated it to ceramic and I didn't feel a thing. It's simply amazing that ceramic tint!

Pingo, Go back to the Installer and have He/She trim the tint off the Matrix (dots) and ask them to add a Mat or thin liner to the Matrix area. I'm not sure what the matting is called , but it worked GREAT for my G.

Re: rear tint has lifting..dealer said no fix possible

I am guessing that 6mt is talking about black vinyl window film....

I used black vinyl for the dot matrix area of the window on my last car and it looked great. Zero lifting. Which on a black car can really **** you off.

There are black vinyl window films that are used for 100% blackout... they are the same thickness as regular tint films and have an adhesive on one side.

You can use the vinyl for the dot matrix area and whatever tint film you want for the rest of the window. A good tinter can then cut a matching line in the tint film so you dont see a gap.

Not all shops offer this, so call around.

However, a good tint shop shouldn't have a problem w/ dot matrix windows regardless...
