Got hit!

Here is the long story...

9 months ago, my wife went to a grocery store. Getting out of the car, she forgot to put on the emergency brake (6mt speed tranny) on as she is shopping inside the store a page over the loud speaker comes on, "Will the owner of a white Infiniti please come to the front." She goes up there and finds out that the car rolled across the parking lot into a parked truck. They hit bumper to bumper so the truck won! She confronted the truck owner and he said not to worry about it because it didn't do any damage to his vehicle. HOWEVER, it rippled the rear bumper of my car ever so slightly, however, it is enough to make me mad and enough for me to notice it. I get over it and then nine months later (just last weekend) my wife and I go to Vegas. My friends and I went golfing in the afternoon and my wife and her friends went shopping. When I got back, she said, "Don't get mad." and I immediately said, "What happened." She explained that while she was in the car at the front of the hotel a person backed into the front of the car. She said, "it only put two little scratches on the front of the car" but because the front end was dirty from all of the bugs from the road trip there, I couldn't tell if there was anything wrong with it. Yesterday I take it to get it washed and not only is there 2 little scratches, there is a scratch as long as the license plate insert is wide. IN ADDITION, the bumper has a rippling effect on it and a crease across the insert. I'VE HAD IT!!!!!!!!

I decided today that I am going to file a claim with my insurance company. I have a $500 deductable and I was wanting to spruce up the front and rear bumper by getting brand new ones. Since I don't have the aero package, I was thinking about having my insurance company write me a check for the price of two new bumpers and then take the money and get the nismo bumper.

Any suggestions on how to go about this?

I decided today that I am going to file a claim with my insurance and say that both bumpers got damaged from hit and runs in VEGAS.

Not sure posting this was a good idea! On the first incident, why did the car roll without the brake, did she leave it in neutral? Shouldn't have rolled if left in a gear.

Re: Got hit!

The front bumper was a hit and run. And for the first incident the car was not in gear. The only time she puts it in gear is when the car is parked on a slope or steep incline, but in a parking lot... not needed.

Re: Got hit!

Go ahead and file a claim to your insurance, but I hope you are not going to file bogus claims to have your rear bumper fixed in the process. That only increases premiums on Gs for the rest of us! That first hit was an at fault accident, while the Vegas hit can be ruled as a hit and run.

IMO, you should always park in a gear, not neutral, even in a parking lot, you never know, obviously if it rolled, there was a slope!

Re: Got hit!

what do you mean by park in gear? you mean leave it in 1st or 2nd gear and make it stall? is that how some of you park your 6MT's by stalling? or am i missing something?

Re: Got hit!

lol

He means that after you "park" (come to a complete stop), you can then either place the car in gear and turn off the ignition BEFORE you release the clutch, or you can turn of the ignition while the transmission is in neutral AND THEN place it in gear.

Either way, the car is in gear while parked and will not roll, as can be the case with a wimpy e-brake. Just for the record, there's a reason that the e-brake is now called an Emergency break and no longer a Parking break, as you found out. A lot of cars have e-breaks that don't really hold the vehicle still if you reverse while the e-break is engaged.

And yeh, stalling the car with a clutch dump isn't the best way to park. lol But it would get the job done, wouldn't it?

LOL, no, don't stall the car, shut it off with the clutch in, and leave it in gear, geez!

Yeah, so long as you are not parked right up to a pole or another car.

Re: Got hit!

Getting a new wife's definitely the answer here...i made sure to get a 6mt since my wife can't drive stick...

It would seem that most spouses don't quite get the love affair we have with our cars, and therefore don't show them the respect they deserve....

I'd get rid of my wife before my car...
