Scratch X isn't your best bet for using a PC, that's better on touch up spots here and there I have found. You'll be better off getting a quality polish made for use with the PC. There is a link somewhere on how to use a PC...I would watch that because your speeds are off. I can't get teh link right now but will try to find it later. I never use anything but 5 or 6 for polishing. I typically do another quick wash after polishing as well. NXT should be applied by hand.

Your detailing process should looking something like what I have below, this is for your paint only.

- Wash
- Clay
- Polish
- (glaze/sealant if you prefer)
- Wax

You should take the time to read over www.paintcare-n-detailing.com. They go over in depth the correct procedures for proper auto care.

Have fun,

Don

dont use meguiars. it doesnt compare to better products such as blackfire. what color is your car? and i wouldnt let dish detergent touch my car. use some quality car wash. if i were u id just get a blackfire starter kit. whatever one comes with wash, polish, and wax. ull be amazed at the shine. and get lake country pads for the PC. polishes at high speeds, waxes at middle. also, clay after the wash, but no need to wash again.

AM i do it right???
1. Wash using a car wash soap, not Dawn as this will dry out the paint.
2. OK
3. No need to wash again.
4. I assume scratch X is a polish. What specifically are you trying to accomplish with the polish?
5. OK
6. No need. You're done after waxing.

NXT is a last step protectant (LSP), just like wax. Use one or the other. Although Scratch-X is now formulated for the PC, use something else. You should take a few pics of your paint in direct sunlight. I.E, with the sun reflecting in the picture. This will allow us to see the condition of your paint to recommend a particular polish/pad combination. It seems as though you are REALLY new to detailing and should read up on a site such as autopia.org. Good luck.

Just to add two cents.... autogeekonline.net has an amazing amount of information about detailing a car. They have an entire sub-forum dedicated to the Porter Cable alone. Spend some time there just reading and you'll be able to learn TONS about detailing.
