Infiniti Logo

I think it's common around here to refer to the Infiniti logo as the Mount Fuji logo. However, I called a dealership today to get a logo for the Gialla grill and the guy refered to it as a "road going into infinity". Kind of make sense too. I wonder what's the real story behind the Infiniti logo.
Whatever it is, it's leagues more interesting than the Lexus and Acura logos.

Re: Infiniti Logo

<font color=blue>"The name “Infiniti” was chosen to communicate the endless potential for satisfaction among owners of a car with superb comfort, reliability and luxury. The unusual spelling assured the proprietary usage of the name, while the elegant logo was derived from the symbol for infinity."</font color=blue>

Okay, I did a search and found this, this is from the ad agency that designed the original and updated Infiniti Logo, this should put to rest any rumors. I, being a graphic designer, always thought there was connection to the symbol.

Re: Infiniti Logo

So a stylized infinity symbol, eh??? Personally, I kind of like the Mt. Fuji thought / reasoning better.

Re: Infiniti Logo

Well, sorry, that's right from the creator of the logo, Mt. Fuji sounds more mysterious!

Re: Infiniti Logo

Sorry guys, coming from an art background, logos are supposed to represent their brand. I never saw it as Mt Fuji, because I never saw it as a product of Japan. If you didn’t know it was made there would you think it was appropriate? There is nothing mysterious about a volcano. We all know what they do, and why, just not when.

The Infiniti logo is actually reminiscent of an old Si-Fi show from the 60s called Time Tunnel (pre-StarGate) where there is an elliptical portal that could send you into the future.

Dont believe me? Check out the set pics on this Time Tunnel fan site. I would bet money that the original creators of the logo used this for inspiration.

Re: Infiniti Logo

I'm also coming from an art background, did you look at the link I posted earlier from the designers of the logo? Wow, I had forgotten about that show, good old James Darren! Where is the similarity in the logo on that site? I see the elliptical, but not the rest.

Re: Infiniti Logo

Yes, saw your post. Most ideas are built off other ideas. They can spew all they want about their philosopy behind the design, they have to in order to justify their fees. The slang word for desigeners who do that in architecture is called Arch-a-babble.

What makes it similar to that show is the eliptical shapes, and I bleave they used to walk into that thing, all they needed was a road. Obviously, no ad firm would do an exact copy, as I said, they probably used it as inparation or a starting point.

Re: Infiniti Logo

I wouldn't doubt if it was accepted by Nissan because is looked like Mt. Fuji, along with the infinity connotation.

the Nissan logo is the sun meeting the horizon (or is that a rising sun, hmmmmm???)....right?

cheers, ted
