Think you could reverse it where it was always off and you had to hit the button to turn it on?

I thought KP Technologies had a module that remember the VDC off...
MOMENT OF TRUTH!!!

The traction control module is used to add a memory feature to the traction control switch in your vehicle. The unit automatically stores the ON/OFF state of the switch when the vehicle is shut off and restores the setting when the ignition is turned on. This module remembers the turned off feature everytime you shut the car off.

To elaborate:
You don't want the slip light coming on, meaning you don't want traction control kicking in, so you turn VDC off. That takes care of the problem...
mostly.
In reality even when it is turned off, the traction control is not 100% disabled. For most purposes though, this will be fine, you can still brake loose, spin your tires, lose traction, dyno your car etc. If you want to go completely crazy in some super drift competition though, then there is a fuse that you have to remove to completely disable the system, however you will also be disabling your ABS.
