I keep thinking that getting a CHL would be a good thing but then another side of me thinks that its just asking for trouble.

I went shooting for the first time a few weeks ago with a friend and really enjoyed it. I would honestly view buying a gun for more fun than protection. But if it ever came down to it I know that I would have it for protection just in case.

I have an awesome crossbow if you really want to have some fun. Best thing is that you can legally shoot it in your backyard though it would be much safer to do it in a field, which I happen to have right by my house. I even have a target.

CHL class just teaches you the laws and allows you to apply for the license. Self defense class and a few marksmanship classes go a long way on top of that.

You don't need a license to have a gun in your vehicle or in your house. You only need it to be able to carry it on you. I think that anyone with a gun should have to take a few classes before being allowed to buy one. Since I was in the military am well trained, I was able to teach my husband on the rules and safety and the deadly force triangle (when you are legally allowed to shoot someone). But without me, he wouldn't have known chit and that is really scary because that is about 99% of the population.

ignorant... or in this case "ignant" *** fool... where's a sniper when you need one eh?

you did the right thing walkin away. and yea, a CHL just means you get in more trouble if you use your gun incorrectly as you were aware of the laws when you broke them. it's just an unstable element generally. though, I do have a friend selling a 9mm if anyone is interested
