well i've read it holds up to 10 quarts.. some say you just need 6 quarts. Also looks like most prefer to use oem nissan fluid from what i've read.. Here's a useful post..

OP what I would do is buy 8 quarts, drain the pan, and refill with 3 1/2 quarts. Drive 50-100 miles and repeat the process. Give the car about 1-2000 miles and repeat. That way you don't shock the tranny all at once with new fluid. I don't think the tranny has been hurt unless you track your car but check your fluid ASAP. If it is dark or brown and smells burnt, you probably need to ignore my first advice and take it to the dealer for a complete flush and fill.

The tranny fluid is Nissan S-Matic, it replaced the J-Matic and is the only transmission fluid recommended for our engines.

Anyone who can do an oil change can do a tranny or diff fluid swap. Extremely easy and I did mine diff fluid in under 30 mins tops. I would rather change diff fluid every 3k miles over doing the oil change . Tranny is just as easy and I plan to order up a case of MTF fluid and do my vehicle (Extra for friends). Only thing you need is a 10mm Hex socket that you can pick up for $5.99 along with that a OIL suction gun would make your life a lot easier. Also to safe just stick to OEM fluids for tranny and the diff you can go with any GL5 fluid life Mobil 1.

Honestly, when it comes to the tranny, the best idea is a flush, not just a fluid drain and replace. That's where the extra fluid comes into okay. A lot of the fluid is still in the tranny when you just drain it. A flush requires a machine as your car is running while they switch out the fluid

thats why you just do drain and fills more frequently. eventually gets it all out without having to hook it up to some machine at an expensive dealership.

You can do a FULL flush with no special tools.. however drain and fill is easier..

Better equipment doesn't mean the operators are going to be any better...
