Trix...I am still waiting to hear back from Infiniti and left a message for the service advisor. I was worried about this before I even went into the dealer about the Oil consumption. Once you have been sucking down 8mm or more of oil in 1000 miles than you are qualified for a new motor. I was at 12mm and trix was at 17mm.

Nissan is no longer doing long block replacement due to the Cost and there belief the only the piston rings were bad. At one point it was thought to be also valve guide seals. Now what I want to bring to your attention is the a noise at idle that you describe could be something to do with the heads and the noise might possibly still be there. The issues is that there is slight engine noise up top in the heads from oil consumption. Trix had this issues last year when he went in for a motor. They gave him a new shortblock and not only is it consuming oil but still making the same noise.

You do not have to be a rocket scientist to figure out if the noise was there before the short block and same noise is there after shortblock. Then that means it is time for long block. Nissan does not agree since the SHAREHOLDERS do not like the thought of longblocks for all. Due to NISSAN CRAPPY CRAPOLA REVUP BULLETPROOF AWARD WINNING MY A*SS MOTOR .....AKA......NISSAN RED HEADED STEP CHILD MOTOR.

edit: JEEZ NISSAN IT IS A V6 motor even FORD AND GM can design a decent V6 engine and not make it consume one bit of oil. This is not rocket science but a simple combustion engine that has been used for years and should have been perfected.

So Trix and PhGit - You're both burning oil after your short block replacements?

yeah new rings would require too much manual labor and most of the techs there have no idea about how to build an engine in the first place. It's too much precision work that they don't trust them with (and for good reason.) easier to just replace the short block.

hahahahahha.. he said headlights.. LMAO!

I think ya'll missed Chris' point.. I don't think any of you are that dense to think Chris isn't fully aware of the limitation in parts.. This is deeper than that. I'mma leave it at that.
