Basics to tuning class - January 15-16

http://www.efi101.com/schedule.php?cat=EFI&country=USA

For those who were interested in knowing the basics of tuning, and gain the ability to tune on your own. Its a 2 day class. Im tempted to go its on a weekend so its perfect for me.

This is a really good class if you don't already know the basics, but I've heard it doesn't get all that deep into detail. There is really more to it than they can possibly teach in just a few days, especially when they have a class full of people. Just so you know, there is a local company that has classes too. I believe most of them are online too. I've met the guy who owns it, and watched him tune a subie. Very cool guy, and super knowledgeable.

There are a few books you can get too that will really broaden your knowledge about tuning as well.. Do a search on Amazon.com for EFI tuning. One that's particularly good is
Building and Tuning High-Performance Electronic Fuel Injection Building and Tuning High-Performance Electronic Fuel Injection
.

NP at all. I've actually spent quite a bit of time on a dyno tuning a fully built NA Integra and learned a whole lot about it. That was especially hard to tune because there was no basemap for that motor... I probably read 10 different books on ECU programing, Electronic Fuel Injection, Turbo Charging EFI systems, you name it.. I have plans to get the Osiris Tuner next month after I recover from Christmas, and then I'm gonna start working on a full tune for my G35. I'll be more than happy to share any info I have/gain with anyone interested during that process.

Yeah, but you have knowledge and you can tune yours so many more times than what the cost is, hell even charge people to tune theirs if they trust you.

Yep, the knowledge itself is priceless.. Anytime that you change something on your motor, you really should re-tune or you won't be getting the actual performance possible. Look at the write up that Rob did for instance.. In just changing an intake, without a tune he LOST power on almost every setup. On my Integra, going from a high flow cat to a test pipe netted a loss in over all power until I tuned for it. When I tuned for it, I gained about 7hp. If you have the knowledge and a place to do it, you can tune for every significant part and know that you're actually making progress, and what that progress is. Without that, its a crap shoot. A good tuner will charge at least $500 for a full tune with dyno time. If he only charges half for a re-tune, then at 5 tunes you'd be looking at $1500. That's 15 hours on dyno doing it yourself. I'd much rather have the experience.

Hey duel ,Rob was talking about getting with you for his next osiris tune. I was wondering I if I chipped in on his dyno time if I can watch you work.

Sure bro! I'm just around to help out when I can. After I get Osiris and tune my own car, I'll be ready to start tuning for others for a small fee. Will tune for mods!
