AMD/ATI = gaming on a budget lol Intel and Nvidia wipe the floor performance wise...I went away from gigabyte boards after they went p45 with all the dual bios bugs, went through 3 of them in warranty. Asus is solid i prefer EVGA, most of the components in my machine are EVGA. Love their lifetime warranty. There hasn't been much reason to upgrade the machines in a while all this new hardware is for nothing. The way pc gaming has slowed down is crazy..Very few of us are high end editors and even with the light stuff i do i still haven't stressed these 8 cores once in almost 2 years now...i've only added some more ddr3 I may go SSD once i kill this RAID array. LOL @ Call of duty still using DX9

actually as far as gaming performance, there is like a 5 fps difference between intel and amd top end chips. of course this depends on games and if they benefit more from more cores or faster clock rate per core. I agree that the intel I7s dominate most apps but honestly you wont notice a huge difference in games where your graphics card is the limiting device.

ati vs nvidia depends highly on what card you get and what game you are playing as each game is optimized differently.

The top of the line I7 outperforms this proc that I just picked up for sure. 6 core vs 6 core, it wins, yet not by much (as Rob mentions). HOWEVER, and a big however, this proc cost me $190 shipped. The I7 proc would be $900! Screw that.

Regardless of optimization Nvidia has had the edge for as far back as i can remember...AMD got competitive by lowering their prices.

I call bs, ATI has been dominating lately, they keep going back and forth with who is on top. ATI is by no means a cheap company. the 57xx series was a clear winner over the comparable nvidia generation on all accounts.

for sh*ts and giggles

highlights...nvidia's old gtx 480 still is faster than ati's newer 6xxx series outside of the 6970 last years 57xx obviously is behind the gtx480 as well the "comparable product". these are 3dmark scores, just raw performance. And once again guess who's on top of the list most

Now ladies.... Ironic this topic sparks a debate.

ATI's best achievement was the combination of its technology and the AMD processor, but that's separate to this discussion. I've honestly never owned an nvidia card. Not for any particular reason, just a fan of ATI. Which is what I intend to get again.

I've gamed on both and for some reason ATI looks better to me.

no doubt the gtx480 was a good card. but again for shts and giggles. tell me why a card half the price is beating nvidia?

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2...amer,2669.html

I've owned nvidia 8800 512 (g92) and ATI 5870, x1900 A-I-W, x1300, 9200 and my past laptop had nvidia 8300 mobile, current has a 425 mobile

Specifically, I'm looking at an AX6850 1gb 256-bit GDDR5 PCIe 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready w/ CrossFireX Support
