Unhappy New Radar/Laser Law in Texas Effective 9/1/11

Someone suggested I posted this up in a thread as it is definitely some useful information and affects everyone currently using any type of laser diffuser, blinder, shifter, etc. The radar detector law is also being looked at where it would be illegal to have one in your vehicle.

For now only the laser law has been passed. Some cities are getting new laser guns that will also take a picture of the car and record the speed.

Source: Texas Statutes: Sec. 547.616.

Effective Sept. 01, 2011

Sec. 547.616. RADAR INTERFERENCE DEVICES; OFFENSE.

(a) In this section, "radar interference device" means a device, a mechanism, an instrument, or equipment that is designed, manufactured, used, or intended to be used to interfere with, scramble, disrupt, or otherwise cause to malfunction a radar or laser device used to measure the speed of a motor vehicle by a law enforcement agency of this state or a political subdivision of this state, including a "radar jamming device," "jammer," "scrambler," or "diffuser." The term does not include a ham radio, band radio, or similar electronic device.

(b) A person, other than a law enforcement officer in the discharge of the officer's official duties, may not use, attempt to use, install, operate, or attempt to operate a radar interference device in a motor vehicle operated by the person.

(c) A person may not purchase, sell, or offer for sale a radar interference device to be used in a manner described by Subsection (b).
(d) A person who violates this section commits an offense. An offense under this subsection is a Class C misdemeanor.

Class C Misdemeanor = essentially a second ticket.

depending on the fine for having it, which do you prefer?
1) A massive speeding ticket, potentially your car impounded, and a trip to jail
2) Laser shifters which allow you to get to a reasonable speed, so a moderate speeding ticket and possibly a fine for your laser shifters

Or don't speed and follow the law? Or if you feel the need to speed pay the consequences of getting the ticket?

The City of Plano also thanks you for paying taxes.... Plano PD actually in my opinion is one of the better departments (don't wanna derail the thread and start an argument on that). I have never seen a Police Officer pull someone over for less than 8 miles an hour over. Any more than that and I think you get to the point of speeding excessively. No reason to be speeding through the city anyways.

So yes the City of Plano does thank you when you go down to pay that ticket. You break the law, deal with it.. Simple as that.
