First Time at the Strip With The G

After 3+ yrs of ownership finally made it down to my local 1/4 track for a test n tune night.
Car is a 2007 G35x 5at all stock, full weight.

First pass I put it in DS turned off VDC brake torqued to 1000-1100rpm and floored it. To my surprise run went well, in fact there was really nothing I could have done differently or better. I was expecting the timeslip to say 14.0, what it actually said was 14.5 @ 96mph. )-:
Second run I lined up with a 2009 G37 Coupe 7AT with long tube cold air intakes, exhaust and tune.
This time I opt to manually shift. Well I go 14.5 Again! I pick up 1 mph trap speed. He does a 14.0 at 101mph. At this point I start to hear some rumblings about this particular track running slower than other tracks.

Last run of the night I line up with the same G37. Almost a carbon copy 14.5 AGAIN with my usual 2.2 60 ft, although this time he runs a 14.2 at 101mph.

Well i guess if modded G37s with over 300whp are running a best of 14.0, I can't be too upset with running 14.5 on all my passes. I'm going to try to visit another track slightly further away just to see if it was in fact the track or my car can't run anything but a 14.5!

Nice, I need to get back out to my local track with my G35 coupe.

what track was this?

edit:
isnt that year g35x a hr? Probably should be faster than 14.5 with 95mph trap. Assuming the DA was not ridiculous

Lol read my post again. As I mentioned off the top I to was expecting to run faster, somewhere around a 14.0 on a perfect run.

Given the fact modified G37s with over 300whp were doing 14.0 it's very possible the track or timing equipment was running slow .
I'll know for sure when I head out to the other track likely in a week.
Or it could be possible that after 13 years and 120,000 miles my car has slowed down. One way to find out.
Also there were Subaru WRXs and first gen G35s both running consistent 15.1s

I guess you missed where I asked what track and if the DA was ridiculous or not. That was basically asking about track prep and weather.

from personal experience my stock high mileage DE G35 6mt 1/4 time was .2-.3 slower and my 60fts were slower when the DA was above 2000. Compared to DA @1000Ft or less. At a track that is only 100ft above sea level. On a night with low DA I ran 14.1 with 2.0 60ft Stock when a FBO g37 5at ran 13.3 with 2.1 60ft

Try the other track get a good 60ft, hit your shift points and the rest should fall in place.

Not at all, DA was simply not a factor. It was 75 degrees with decent humidity at near sea level. As far as 60ft it's already maxed out at 2.2
I don't really know of any way a stock HR 5at can go any faster.

Just to verify you're skipping the water box and just giving the tires a quick scrub yes?

I think it’s cool to still see people taking these cars to the track.

Hopefully you get better numbers, good luck next time out.

Driving around the water box and immediately staging. Car hooks up even with very worn down all seasons in the rear. Traction is a non-issue.

It was a actually a busy night with several V36 sedans in attendance. I think I was the only stock one there, will probably need to look at doing some mods if i want to dip into the 13's.

I’m not sure on how much LAUNCH RPM brake/gas you need to use on the G35x models. I have seen the auto RWD models get 2.1 60fts. I have never driven a VQ auto so Not sure how they launch stock. My best 60ft on my 6mt was 2.0. Maybe someone with an auto will comment on how that launch. Or maybe someone with track videos on YouTube will reply.

A shift kit will also help a bunch. The 5AT in the 07'-08' HR's really have a soft glide into gear at WOT that just burns up those frictions. After the shift kit it probably knocks .2 secs off per shift

Interesting, didn't know something like that even existed. It does sound like a rather time consuming and expensive install however. I'm at the track 1-2 times per year, probably not worth it especially since I'm still stock.

Still saving my pennies on exhaust mods. ;-)

As far as launch RPM I don't think the car (ECM) will allow any more than about 1500rpm-1800rpm, not that i would want to sit on the starting line subjecting my torque converter to any more than that anyway.

The Transgo kit is only $200 and will not only give better harder shifts but will make the tranny hold up a lot longer. I would suggest it even if a car was going to stay stock just to prolong the transmission life. We did my brothers 08' at 160k miles and it will bark 3rd gear (it is stock, but tuned slightly leaner for power). I also use the transgo kit in my 02' G20 automatic. It runs low 13's on 20psi boost.
