why would u want to downshift into first at 30 mph.... its does that so you dont mechanically overrev the engine

There should be no need to downshift to 1st gear at 30mph since that's close to engine redline, but at 20 you chould rev match to facilitate the shift. Just blip the engine to about 4k and then ease it into 1 at the higher rpm.
You really don't want to do that too often since it will eventually prematurely wear out your 1st gear synchro ring (unless you do it perfectly every time)...

There is no reason to downshift into 1st? Do you know how to drive a manual transmission? 1st gear is for takeoff's only, from there on, you should be rolling around in 2nd gear if your going 10mph and below. If you REALLY NEED to get in 1st, push the clutch in and tap the throttle to the proper RPM and the gate for first should be open.

Wink

Its prob not a joke he most likely just learned how to drive a manuel witch is not a big deal. A friend of mine that i have let drive my car always thinks it nessesary to go into first gear when hes turning a corner or whatever. Like Chili Bowl said 1st gear is for takeoff's only I even use Second Gear at times to takeoff.

why would u downshift to first... esp at 20-30mph
1st to me is a pick-me-up gear and it should only be used for starts, i only use first when i go from a complete stop, even rolls most o fthe time i will use 2nd
