Rogue Short Shifter problem...

Ran into a bit of a problem today during my install...For starters, that bracket that needs to come "off" of the old shifter and onto the new one gave me FITS!! Is that why people were just buying replacements? Im fairly certain two of the ears inside that bracket snapped...It didn't fall completely off but it is cracked...I continued with the install because the 2 dealerships in the area that I called said they didn't have those in stock...

1. Am I at serious risk with that? Does anyone know what Im talking about?

2. The car shifts and feels great. However, Im getting a very LOUD vibrating noise. It sounds like a piece of something isn't secure and is able to rattle around. Did anyone else experience this? My shifter still has about 1/2 inch left of space to be tightened until its FLUSH with the leather boot..Could that be the problem? I've tried turning it more, but I must be a serious sally...Cause that damn thing aint moving...

The vibrating noise is NOT something you can live with in daily driving...But Im pretty sure its fixable...Im most concerned about that bracket that snapped...Any thoughts? Im worried sick...

Vibration is common and cause due to not tightening enough. Throw a thick rag around the shifter, eat some wheaties, and use an adjustable wrench or vise grips (Non toothed version) and lock them over the rag and wrench away. Most folks would also reco you use a strap wrench to hold the "stick" portion so you do not induce the torque ur applying to the tranny.

As for the shifter cup, the shifter only comes out one way. place the cup on a vise (sitting on top) allowing the shifter to run through teh center. Be sure that the exiting portion of teh shifter cup is facing down. Now place a piece of would over the top of the shifter and give it a good whack. It will fall right out. Install the new one in the same manner. AT this point, I would reco a new shifter cup cuz you may have messed yours up. Any Nissan or Infiniti dealer should have one.

Diesel thank you very much for the response...I feel like I cant turn that damn shifter any further, but there certainly is space for it to move down some more...As for the cup, Ill go ahead and order a new one...For the time being, do you forsee any problems? I wont put any blame on you! LOL...I drove the car home last night and a bit today...How big of a problem is a snapped bracket inside the shifter cup? What problems could this cause? Thanks again...
