What auto trans fluid does the '04's take? Can I use ATF +4? or does have to be nissan j-type fluid.

I've never read about a replacement to the Nissan J-matic fluid. I'm all for alternatives but I'd stick to the pricey J-matic stuff if you aren't 10000000% sure about what to use.

If anyone has found a good replacement fluid, it would be on the Z forums. You might want to try there.

if you are under warranty, anything but J-matic will void the warranty.

I would stick w/ the Nissan variety. On a side note, I called the local dealership to see how much it would cost to flush the auto tranny, and they told me $340. Does that sound right??

Nissan dealership quoted me $139 for auto tranny flush, or about $130 less than Infiniti quoted.

I don't know. Honestly, it's hard to know who to trust these days. How do you really know they flushed the tranny?? As much as I hate dealership service cause of the $$, I trust them a little more. Plus, if I have a problem, it's not like they can blame me or another shop.

I thought that sounded high .

You dont knowif they flushed it. I went outside the shop and watched them drain i and refill it and tell me they flushed it with a machine. So when i called them out on their b.s. they apologized and gave me a discount on the drain and refill.. They also apologized and told a b.s. story that my 05x was a mid production model and isnt able to be flushed..It would mess up the tranny..But older ones and newer ones could..so i guess i have a special tranny i told them..lol...they are such liars...competition infiniti in smithtown by the way. They are the biggest liars..I Will only do the tranny service there..I bet in 30k more miles they will try the same thing again. That is why i wouldnt do any other services there..How do i know all the stuff they are "inspecting" is actually done. They have proved to be very dishonest on more than one occasion for me..

I have only had one AT car in my life, it was a 96 honda accord ex-l. Instead of doing a flush, I just drained and filled the fluid every ~6-10k miles. You will still have some of the old fluid in there but over time it is all flushed.
