If you do the drain and fill method how many quarts do you need?

if you simply drain without dropping the pan then plan on around 4.5 - 5 quarts coming out. if you drop the pan then plan on about another .5 quart or so coming out. with the pan down you can clean the metal debris from the magnets and get it out of the system along with getting a little more fluid out. the 06 fsm shows 10 7/8 quarts as the capacity. i think you would be safe with 6.

i just did mine for the first time. 57k miles.. it was REALLY clean..
exactly 4 quarts came out.. i put in 4.1 quarts~

I did mine on the weekend. Only got 3.5 quarts out. That's all it took to fill as well. Mine wasn't so clean!

I'm planning to do a tranny flush very soon. I called Redline and they said the D4 ATF is also compatible with the Nissan J Matic. I'll probably end up using Redline since I can get it at my local Napa Auto parts.

i think i read in the FSM a list of other fluids besides J-Matic that meets specification


also, the mechanic at my dealer told me that you can disconnect the coolant return line...feed it to a bucket if you dont have a large enough catch pan....still need two people to do it tho

The J Matic has a special additive to match the new dual clutch lock up mechanism. It might be possible to modify the stick slip characteristic of PREMIUM ATF to emulate J Matic.

The additive smooths the engagement and disengagemnt of lock up.

Lubeguard BLACK might work with experimentation?

Unfortunately errors don't usually show up until after warranty around 100k.

I called around to see how much the dealers charge for a tranny flush and I decided to let them do it. Cost is $190 and they use J matic. It'll cost me almost the same if I were to buy the fluids and take it to an independent shop.
By the way, i'm taking it to Frontier Infiniti.
