Question for the 6MT's

I've noticed that the throw out bearing seems to make alot of noise when the clutch is not depressed. About a month ago I had a JWT flywheel installed, and it seems that the bearing makes even more noise now. I was thinking of taking the car in to have it inspected, but I'm afraid that they will see the flywheel and tell me I'm on my own for the repair. I know it doesn't cost that much, but then it will go into their system and if I have any tranny trouble, I'll be fighting with them to fix that aswell. I was thinking of removing the flywheel and putting the stock one back in, but then I've already spent the money and may aswell have the bearing replaced then. It's a delima, but the oh well. Any suggestions.

Why didn't you have the throw out bearing replaced when you had the new flywheel installed in the first place?

Re: Question for the 6MT's

I noticed the same thing with my car also regarding the throw out bearing. It's starting to make a lot of noise now and it really bothers me. Also in the long run, a bad throw out bearing can sieze and cause major problems to the engine. So pretty much taking it to the dealer for them to repair it is a good preventive measure from major engine damage. Plus it should be still under warrenty.

I would go ahead and have you and a friend swap out the flywheel. Then take it to the dealer for the clutch job.

Re: Question for the 6MT's

Your throw out bearing is making noise when clutch is not depressed? Isn't the symptoms of a bad throw out the opposite? The throw out bearing shouldn't be doing anything if the clutch is out, unless it's contacting the pressure plate in some way. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Anyway if it's real bad i agree with the other poster, put it back to stock and bring it in. Hopefully it's not a bad pressure plate.

Re: Question for the 6MT's

I didn't have the bearing replaced when the new flywheel was put because it wasn't that loud before. I had the work done at Oceanside Nissan - They're really cool about aftermarket stuff. I actually ordered the flywheel through them. I would do it myself, but with work I usually don't have the time to do that type of work to the car, I'd rather pay some one to do it. Well I'll try to schedule a day to have the car checked, and I'll let you guys know what happens.

Re: Question for the 6MT's

my 6mt makes the same noise. my dealer (idiots) said that it is a normal noise, i am going to keep complaining about it. hopefully the tranny will die and i can get a newer one that shifts a little better, i have difficutly downshifting (which the dealer also says is normal).

Ditto on what Loren just said above here.

Anyone that is thinking about installing lightened flywheels should do their hopework and search on my350Z.com. You will know in advance that they naturally have a "gravel in the tranny sound" at idle to 2K That would make me think it's not such a good mod for me.
