Tranny Programming 5AT

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT
Guys, for the dealerships that do NOT want to do it, or those that say that it is impossible, print out the Consult II slip that I posted earlier and show it to them.
As far as the tranny shifting into 1st as you slow down to a stop... the new program does NOT do that. Also, it is not exclusive to coupes; a loaner sedan that I had a while ago did the same - so there must be a later revision of the program than the AL004 version. But at this point, those of us with the earlier BETA cars (03.0 sedans) are stuck with this program until/if a newer program is available. I would love to explore whether the coupe AL013 program could be flashed into the sedan TCM, but don't want to risk it. That would be nice though!

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT
My 2003 Sedan is in the shop this morning for my new
CD/Radio. I'm driving a 2004 Sedan 5AT while the work is
being done. So I ran it's 5AT in manual mode to compare
to my original G35. I have Gordon's basic 10 wire Hyperground
kit which includes the Transmission wire and the ECU/TCU
ground wires. The only thing I noticed that was improved
in the loaner was the shorter shift throws. As a matter of fact,
I think mine actually shifts quicker than this loaner. So I'm
satisfied with my 5AT. If I could get these guys to upgrade
the software, the shifting MIGHT be better, but I have heard
from a reliable source that the program upgrade on a
10 wire grounded sedan produced no noticable difference.

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT
Hi InfinitiTech,
I think you might be the one on this board know about what I am talking about. I had this bad jerking motion in my 04' G35C 5AT coming either from the tranny or the engine. I went to the dealer and checked the TCU, it says it's at 31036-AC111. Is this something same as the 31036-AL013 or is it better/worse?
Thanks,
ILuvMyG35

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT
I just discovered this post this week. I have one of the earliest 2003 G35 5AT's in the US, # 398 to be exact. I bought mine in March of 2002, weeks after they arrived in the US. Not until I got a loaner G a few times did I begin to think that there was something wrong with my G. I had complained to my dealer, but got nowhere. I even added a Stillen Intake and 350z tube, with little improvement. In early 2004, I got another loaner and began to document the differences. 1. The loaner took less throttle travel to accelerate. 2. The loaner seemed to find the right gear instantly. 3. The loaner downshifted quickly. 4. The loaner would chirp the tires from a stop. My G was the opposite of all these.
I had the dealer reprogram my TCM yesterday to the AL004 program. I was not sure what to expect.
I can honestly say that the AL004 program transformed my G. The throttle input is short and crisp, the downshifts are instant and the car simply feels more powerful.
I highly recommend that if you have the early AL000 TCM program, get it updated. I am extremely happy.
Now, off to get the dreaded rear axle clicking taken care of! I just found that post tonight. Apparantly 5AT sedans have that problem too.
Regards, and thanks for the excellent post!

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT
I have asked my service advisor to do this twice. Each time
he refused, saying that the program upgrade is not for my 5AT.
What did you tell them to get them to agree to upgrade the
program? The service advisor knows nothing about our cars.
I think he is an idiot. JK

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT
I told him there was a problem with the transmission- sloppy shifts, slow downshifting, poor performance and a poorly calibrated accelerator pedal. I played dumb and did not ask for the new program- I wanted to see what they'd do. I called them later in the day and they said they had a TSB for an updated prgram for the TCM (he then explained what that was). I asked if there was a way to tell- version # etc (already knowing of course). He said I had AL000 and I was being updated to AL004. When I picked up the car he had the printout from the reset for me to keep.
From what I read in this post, every dealer seems to have a different competence level and customer service attitude. Kinda like eating in a popular restaurant- good service from one location or one employee- bad from another.
If you bring in the TSB and give them the symptoms and they don't do it, ask for the phone # of the regional Infiniti rep to set it straight. Or, better yet, call another dealer within a 3 hour drive and have them do it- I am telling you, it's worth a 3 hour drive.

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT
My 2003 G35 Coupe was built March 2003, I am not sure if I need the update. I will try to test the down shift in MM mode, I know in MM it will not upshift, unless I do it. I can bounce off the rev limiter in MM. I do know it will downshift as I approach a stop, and goes into 1st when I stop at a light. I actually like this convience.
Would the update (if I have the old version) help anything on my 5AT?
I do plan to have Techno do a L-Spec this coming week, although I know these are 2 different issues.
