Bought a 2004 G35 6MT Coupe @ Dealership and Clutch ALREADY Died!
I purchased a 2004 G Coupe 6MT about four weeks ago.. And the clutch started slipping about 3 weeks into my driving it. It went from "oh wow my clutch is slipping" to "oh wow my car WON'T MOVE" in a 36 hour timespan. I smelled the clutch both times I test drove the car and I never once grinded gears or did anything wrong, I've been driving manuals for years. Even though I could smell the clutch I didn't' think it was gonna die anytime soon, the car only has 50k miles, so I pulled the trigger.
The day after it started slipping I limped the car to the dealership and they said since oil doesn't touch the clutch, it's not covered under the warranty. I then drove it to a local shop and it's been sitting there for about a week. My question is..
Should the Dealership have to pay for the clutch repairs?
If I buy a clutch and have the shop install it, could I still get the dealership to pay for labor/oem parts after the fact?
I have to let the shop know my final decision today since they have to pull it in and out daily and it stinks up the shop every time they turn the car on (sigh)

The clutch is a wear and tear item. If you buy a car with bald tires, do you think the dealer is responsible for replacing them free of charge? If it is worked into the deal, then yes. Otherwise, no.
Why would the dealership pay for your clutch??? It is not even covered under warranty.
You bought a used vehicle, the rule of thumb when buying used is to test the vehicle and have them replace any faulty parts you can see/find when you hand them your deposit...you should have been able to feel the weak clutch when you bought the car and had the issue address then and there.
4 weeks has elapsed, do you honestly think the dealership will pay $$$. I think not.
It won't hurt to "try" and have the dealership pick up the tab but its a long shot.
Time to upgrade to a performance clutch, you now have a reason.

It's your fault for buying a car without getting it inspected first. The mechanic could have told you "Son, this clutch only has 200 miles left on it". For all you know it could have been in an accident that wasn't reported to carfax.
my clutch went out about 6-7 months after I bought my used 04. Upgraded to an ACT clutch and couldn't be happier
