should U-joints on the driveshaft get replace

should U-joints on the driveshaft get replace

I was wondering if these get replaced?

When i brake-torque my g35x even to 1500rpm, i hear somewhat a clank/clunk that i believe would be coming from my drive shaft. I dont think i've read about people replacing the U-joints on here, but i've seen it replaced a lot on RWD/AWD trucks and other cars as well.

its probably your rear axle clicking. There is a TSB on it. if its under warranty take it in and have them retorque and grease the axle.

Is the rear axle click solved by retorquing?

I'm out of warranty...

what you do is take the axle out, rotate it 180*, grease the inside of the hub, then retq the axle.

just read the TSB, i'm not 100% sure that is my problem but since warranty pays 1.1 to do it, the job should be fairly easy to do. It doesn't click under accleration.

My issue is backing out of my garage, i pull in and every time after i start the car, foot on brake and bring it in R the car isn't moving but there is a clunk, someone feels like the whole drivetrain moved back a couple of mm. Right after this if i put it into park (while maintaining my foot on the brakes, the car's wheels never move) and back into R, the noise doesn't happen.

it happens almost everytime i pull out. it doesn't bother me too much but i figure since i know a lot of truck guys and the all have 4x4, they seem to replace there U joints and w/e else every 60k

Oh, my one time at the track when i brake torqued @ 2500rpm for 2 seconds, the whole car seemed like it was moaning.

thats exactly what the bulletin is for. axles click mostly during change of direction, as in shifting from park to reverse/drive, etc.

cool cool, thanks.

I thought the bullentin stated it was in reguards to accleration... I'll do it later when i have to reinstall my rear springs.

Any good aftermarket lube to use? Or any wheel bearing grease should do?

we use specific grease, but i would think that good brake grease should work good.

I have the same issue, it only happens when you first start the car and backing out of my garage. First I thought it was my transmission then the engine or tranny mount. But recently with my windows down I could hear the clunk came from rear axle. So I am thinking I have the same issue as yours.
Were you able to get it fixed by greasing it? I am out of warranty as well so cannot use the TSB.
Can I do the TSB myself? If I do nothing will it get worst or does it have any negative effects?
