doh... you're right I've got mixed up with the 370Z...quote below taken from My350Z

But I also read that the 370Z have a different flange. So maybe it's a similar diff to the G35 2007-2008 and that would mean the similar mods would do the trick.

I did take a look in the 370Z service manual. Here is what I've found (although the diagrams in the manual are not 1:1 of the real thing)
- The 370Z Pinion Shaft is shorter (similar to an 03 shaft)
- The flange is 4 bolts (similar to an 03 flange)
- The "dust cover" is "male" type (similar to an 07)

So my guess at that point would be that to fit a 370Z diff, one would need to replace the flange (not sure) and the "dust cover" (pretty sure). There seem to be no need to cut the pinion shaft as it is already a short one.

**** all information contain no warranty to be exact it's mainly speculation as I don't have a 370Z diff on hand ****

At least I can confirm the 2007 G35S have the 3.69 AND that it fits

The longer pinion shaft is because the 2007-2008 G35S use a different "coupling" between the propeller shaft and the diff flange. It's rubber mounted instead of metal on metal.

07-08 rubber coupling

07-08 Pinion shaft used for centering the coupling

cruise control... it seems that earlier models are subject to it not working after installing shorter gears...

Also of interest will be your rmp at 80mph

check out this thread:https://g35driver.com/forums/drivetr...ms-80-mph.html

thanks!

I'm about 100% sure I will loose my cruise control because I have a 5AT and the computer looks at some difference between the tranny speed and the speed read by the ABS sensor. The 6MT are not supposed to be affected by a different FD. But I will try it anyway just in case my model behave differently. Personnally I don't mind at all loosing it in trade of more punch

I will surely post my rpm at 80mph but it will only be in a few months (around April) since my G35 is stored for winter. I will also post 1/4 mile times because I love drag racing

Huum, I’ve been trying to figure out why everyone wants to do this swap. With the assumption that eventually everyone wants to go FI. Why would you want shorter gears? Me personally, longer gears means longer boost! Now if one were to go SC and was track racing I could understand the use of the shorter gears (faster corner exits.) For most of us (including me) most of our crafty work to our cars is being displayed on the local highways and roads (also YouTube) which means long gears would be perfect….
So why does everyone want short gears again?

Sorry didn't mean to thread jack... Nice write up by the way. I just want to understand why members are doing this mod.

What... you asked me a question and I answered. I think it would be save to presume that I like FI cars; there for, not understanding why members would go for shorter gears. Which contrary to your belief is still well within the scope of this thread?

This mod is mostly for NA cars not FI due to the gears being too short for boost. However the 3.7 is considered the best FD for a 5AT 3.9 and 4.08 is too short.

Most FI 03-08 6mt guys get the 3.3 from the 5at for the longer gears.

Also the 370z and G37 come with the 3.7FD which some are FI with no problems or complaints. I don't know if any of those guys have switched to a 3.3 which would be great for them if it can be done.

I personally have the 3.5 in my G and OCG35 has the 3.7 in his. I've driven his car and he has driven mine.

The time we switched we both had around the same hp and tq and his car out accelerated mine the only advantage I had was a VB upgrade. (stillen)

I've wanted a 3.7FD ever since that day just haven't got around to it. I would rather switch pumpkins like I did with the 3.5.

Plus, if you are a 5AT and get a supercharger you don't have to lose boost like the 6MT. So, you can take advantage of the gears as long as the traction holds up. Think about it. It makes sense.
