Differentials????

Looking to purchase one from a local shop, I spinned the part in which the drive shaft connects and both axles spin the same direction.

According to the shop it's a 2006 G35 Coupe. Auto.

Is this VLSD?

It is supposed to be a VSLD if you spin one side and the other one spins in the same direction. So I think it is a VSLD.

I have a 3.7 VSLD out of a g37 with a 4 bolt flange that I am gonna put in the classifieds for sale.

Ok, i spinned the drive shaft part, NOT THE WHEEL PART. and both wheels spinned the same direction.

Perhaps I need to check by spinning 1 wheel and NOT the drive shaft????

can any one confirm this?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't the 03-06 autos come with an open diff?

If you turn the driveshaft flange and both axle stubs spin in the same direction, then the diff has a VLSD.

If you spin the axle stubs spin in opposite directions, then it's an open diff.

I verified this with my VLSD and open diffs. I don't know about the coupes, but in 05/06 the Sport package on 5AT sedans came with 3.34 VLSDs.

2006 5AT Coupe with sport package has 3.53 w/ VLSD. Other than that all 2003-2006 5AT have 3.35 - G35X is the exception but this is not a direct swap anyways.

The FSM shows the 2006 auto sedan with a 3.53. My rpms at 80 match those of owners who installed the 3.5 in place of their 3.3. The FSM also shows the 3.53 for the 06 as Toll mentioned but also for the 07 auto coupes. It has been mentioned that it could be a misprint but that would be two years in a row for a misprint in the coupe FSM and my rpms at 80 are 3200 with 245/40/18 all around.

http://infinitihelp.com/models/2006/...ifications.htm
only the 6MT for a sedan had 3.53 gears except for the G35X according to infinitihelp

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/G35/Seda..._Sedan/rfd.pdf (page 60)
5AT shows it was 3.53 gearing for all 2006 sedans as well according to the FSM. THe VLSD was available in the sport and was standard in the 6MT

I would go off the FSM - if you are @ 3200 rpms doing 80 mph then you should be running a 3.53 assuming your tires are not DRASTICALLY different.

Even now I have 245/40/19 all around which are too tall - and @ 80mph it only changes the rpms by 100.
