Tranny clatter at idle?

But it all makes up for it when i bang gears!!!

mamoru!
Yep got the same noise. Thought about chasing the dealer up the tree with the issue but it seems to be so common that its "considered" normal. Its a shame such a beautiful car has such an ugly condition.
I noticed the same sound in my 05 when I was sitting at the window to Wendys! Damn glad I saw this thread I was starting to freak out about it. Former owner of 2 Acura RSX-S.....crappiest trannys ever!!!
yep I got the same noise and decided to just deal with it as well. Thinking my clutch bearing was going out untill this winter when my mechanic took the motor out for a build and discovered a misterious bolt just hanging out in the clutch housing! I duno!
Dual mass flywheels are supposed to be very quiet--the benefit resulting from putting up with a heavier unit. Indeed, my tranny is totally slient at idle with clutch in or out (@ 24000). There is something wrong with your clutch/flywheel and I wouldn't take any BS from the dealer. These guys are notorious for misinformation regarding warranty repairs. I would call Nissan cutomer service if I were you. The presumption should be that there is something wrong until PROVEN right by driect inspection.
'05 coupe 6mt. this may be beating a dead horse, but back when I first took delivery, about a week later I noticed the same noise as mentioned throughout this thread, but since it was barely noticable, I just kind of tuned it out. last week i threw in the nismo clutch and flywheel. Now the noise is back and louder than ever. seems to be around 2000-2500 RPM, mostly under load. I took it to a friend at a Nissan dealership and put it up in the air, and the noise seems to be eminating from the tailhousing of the trans. My guess is the dual mass flywheel masked the noise somewhat. Judging from the responses in this forum this seems to be 'normal', but i have a hard time believing that a transmission with only 10,000 miles on it will have this horrid noise coming from it.

When i start the car, i don't hear the noise. After i drive it for a while, then stop and idle, that's when the noise kicks in. (this probably explains why you don't hear it at the dealership but you hear it in the drivethrough). I have noticed that when the noise is happening, if I touch the stick and pull down on it (just gently add a little bit of pressure) the noise gets worse. If i push up on it (again just put my hand on it, and not force it), it makes the noise get quieter.
its cool that this is "normal" and everything while we have the cars new, but is this going to become a problem once the cars get older? i mean, something is hitting something else to make that nasty noise, its gonna give out eventually, probably when the car's out of its warranty period - or if its in the warranty period - the dealer will claim it's wear and tear....

Bringing the thread from the dead. I apologize if it seems as I'm beating on a dead horse.
I recently purchased an used 03' Coupe in great condition except for this sound. Before I made the purchase, the dealer had the service supervisor checked and he insisted that the sound is coming from the input shaft and it's normal. Sometimes the noise would go away but sometimes it doesn't. Based on my reading through couple of the threads, it seems like no one have found a real solution to this issue i presumed?

not for sure, but my buddy with 03 Z had the same problem (as well as mine), but he changed his tranny/differential fluid with royal purple and the clatter noise went away about 70%. again, not my personal experience but from a very close friend of mine. i have the same problem and it's very annoying.
Im new here on this board. I just recently got a 03 G35. Got a good deal on it. It only has 20K miles on it but at idle I feel a weird vibration and noise every in about 5-7 second intervals? Should I be worried? Its bugs the hell out of me. All you G pros out there...HELP!!!
