hey guys,

i have the same noise. I notice a difference when i take the car out of gear and release the clutch. throw-out bearing maybe? As soon as it warms up it goes away.

That along with the crazy vibration in my shifter above 5k and the rattle in my door, oh and the buzz in the dash.

My fuel pump moans and groans when it's really cold, say below 10 degrees. After a few minutes it's gone. Dealer heard the noise and has no idea what it is. Figures, lol.

Besides the exhaust, there should be no other source of sound from the rear when it's parked, but the puel pump seems to make all kinds of noise at startup, lot of activity going on back there. I almost wish the exhaust could be silent sometimes, would be easier to record the sounds the G makes when it's not feeling good, to share with the rest of the board.

Noise problem #2, hopefully solved.

Hello:

Well, I think we have a lot of similar but not the same problems here, but the dealer finally reproduced the problem on my car (whining noise, only when < 32 degrees, RPM related, under load, first few minutes only.) Their diagnosis was the A/C compressor which they're replacing. Since it's in the right quadrant underhood I think it's likely too, but I wasn't going to ask for a $500+? replacement part without having them double-check it.

Good luck on your cases.

did replacing the AC compressor fix the problem?

Well, the problem is that it's no longer that cold, so I can't be certain.

The few times it's been down in that area I thought I heard some traces of the same noise, so I don't think so. Hard to tell until next winter. [sigh]

I have a 04 6MT

I never had this problem until a friend(mechanic) of mine did a 30k mile service on my car. I get this "wind" noise from front passenger side. It happens every morning for around 5mins as I drive. What could it possibily be? my mechanic changed air filter, cabin filter, flushed tranny fluid (mobil 1 synthetic), changed engine oil, and flushed rear differentials.

After the service I was having problems shifting into 2nd gear in the morning and I get this annoying "wind" noise... WHICH NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE THE 30K SERVICE...but all goes away after 5-10mins of driving.

Btw, I live in California, and now i think the coldest it gets here in the morning is only like 40-60 degrees.

Please give me some advice. Thanks in advance!

Just to make sure, but according to my service manual the 6MT requires:

"Genuine Nissan Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF) HQ Multi 75W-85 or API GL-4, Viscosity SAE 75W-85 or 75W-90"

Are you sure that's what he added? Mobil1 comes in a variety of weights, the synthetic is 75W-140 or 75W-90, the conventional is 80W-90. Make sure you ended up with the 75W-90 for best performance. 80W-90 shouldn't be a real problem. 75W-140 is probably not where you want to be.

Well, the noise I hear is essentially only when cold, only when the engine is under load (you don't hear it when revving in neutral), and engine speed related. It sounds vaguely wind-ish, in that it does flutter (imagine two frequencies of noise, hopping between the two randomly, but always both occur related to engine speed and under load): WHEE-URR-WHEEEEE-URR. Does that sound like your noise?

I'm vaguely embarrased for that last description, but what do you do?

Luck,

Rick

Yep it pretty much sounds like that and coming from the front passenger side (In the general area of the glove box). I really hope this problem is fixable without the need of getting involved with dealership or the extremes of getting a new tranny -_-.

Edit: I believe it was mobil 1 75-90, but I think I will start off flushing the tranny fluid again and go with some Amsoil and see how it goes.

what do you guys think will happen if I have this symptom (low whistling noise during 1st 5 minutes when car is cold) and I just leave it be? Is this really an early sign of tranny failure, and how far out does it fail?

If it won't actually fail for 100K miles and there is no significant degradation in shift quality, then I don't think it's worth dealing with.

Ah, I think you're crossing conversations. I have the "whistling" noise, but no shifting problem. It's an accessory problem in the engine somewhere. The shifting problem is separate and probably related to the gear oil.

cracked alternator belt

I think its coming from the worned out alternator belt. I have a 03 coupe auto and couple of days ago i end up spraying some stupid belt conditioner that this person offered me and ever since then it makes that wind and metal sound. Once your car is warmed up the belt expands and sound goes away. Every mourning when your engine is cool it makes this annoying ball barring metal windy noise but mine goes away after 20 min of driving.

Hey guys

Sorry to bring up an old thread! Sounds like there are about 3 different "wind/whistling" noises that are being discussed on here. However, my problem (I think) is somehow related to the trans/drivetrain, because when I take the shifter out of gear and coast the sound goes away, and when I put it back in any gear the sound returns. It also changes pitch when I shift through the gears. I am going through hell trying to get the dealer to own up and replace the transmission (see below thread I started):

https://g35driver.com/forums/g-spot/213272-attn-drivers-noises-manual-trans.html

Looks like one of you (Tim) had the transmission replaced and it fixed the problem. I pm'd Tim and hopefully will hear back from him with advise. Any others on here that had the transmission replaced?

-Luke
