Thanks for the in-site. Yeah...bottom line it's up to Infiniti/Nissan Corp in how to deal with this.
I feel sorry for the G owners who've gone through more than one VQ replacement and still have this problem. What a pita that must be.
Too bad Corp didn't/doesn't listen to you techs at the Dealers rather than their white collar, clean fingernail, works on paper engineers.

LOL...I mention a long time ago in another consumption thread about it being the rings...lol

It's my understanding they tried a VVT ECU reprogram on some resulting in no real improvements. Now the latest I've heard on here and 350Z forum is they're hand building VQ's for the replacements and so far reports have been good with NO consumption at all.

The pictures above are worth a million words.
Thanks for sharing those.

Just came back from getting the results of the 1st - 1k mile leg of the start of my 2nd engine oil consumption test.

The engine was 1-1/2 qts. low at 950 miles.

Does anyone have this same issue with just using conventional oil?

Perhaps using full synthetic oil causes this issue?

Like OB asked, how many of you with oil consumption problems are using a Full Syn oil (Mobil 1 seems to be the most popular)?

I have a 04 6MTC using regular oil (oil change at 3750 miles) and have no issues.

As I've said somewhere here or the other post about consumption, mine has gotten better over time, BUT during the time I was at 1qt/1200mi, I was running on 5-30 dino that the Dealer uses. Synth is not the cause of this consumption plague.

Me. I've used nothing but 5w30 Mobil1. I have 42K miles on it now.

I don't burn any oil. I change my oil every 3 months regardless off MI. I use whatever Infiniti uses however I add BG MOA to the oil since the car was new. I broke my car in very easy-never redlined it- or brang the RPM over 3K untill i had 3K mi. on the car. After 3K mi. i slowly increased the RPM over the next 3K mi till 6K mi. Now i am at 11K mi. and will be changing to synthetic oil soon. Just my experiance.

I have an '05 manual tranny. My coupe has 26,xxx miles and at 22,xxx was
put on oil consumption test. I just got a new engine about 2 months ago. I wonder how many others have had engines replaced and if they consumed oil after the swap.

I've read many still had consumption, but that was before they were using the hand built VQ's that they're replacing with now.
Those hand built VQ's I've read have had no further issues and rev smoother, etc.

A quart or more worth on dipstick. H to L = 1 quart
Please tell me you already knew that.

Do all 6MTs consume oil?

For the last months I have been researching the G35 and in many occasions I have read that the 6MTs have an oil consumption problem. Can you guys please tell me if this is a problem with just some cars or is the problem with all 6MTs.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

It's mainly the 05 06 6mts. Have heard a couple 07's. But there are 05 06 6mts that dont have this too.
Its a crap shoot if you get a good one, bad one or a so-so one. I have a so-so one 1qt/2500mi.

my 03 6speed coupe loses about 1 quart every 1500 miles... ive come to realize its just part of the car.. def sucks, and without a owner that will keep up on it will turn into a huge headache... i just check my oil every so often and keep a few quarts in the trunk... should i in a $30k car? no... but oh well... too late now with 75k miles to get a new engine

Hi Chuck. If I might suggest, there's an old saying that goes, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease". In other words, it may very well be worth a shot to ask, as this oil consumption problem is a well known and accepted fact by the manufacturer. Just in the the interest of customer satisfaction alone, they might replace it for you. Can't hurt to try, right?
