Poll: Oil Consumption
#107
I have an 06 6MT with only a AEM CAI and i have had it for only 1 year & 5 months and i already have 33,000 miles and i have done my oil changes every 4,000 miles and on my last oil change it went closer to 5000 miles and i noticed that same NASTY popping "heavy metal" sound and i almost thought it was the clutch but when i went to take to the dealership for an oil change they said that it may be missing oil and they were going to do a Oil Consumption test and it only had 1qt in the engine and i have to go back in 1000 miles... damn this sucks! my car has not had a single issue until this...
he said they would only due one 1000 mile check and if it dropped more than 1-1 1/2 qts that he would put in the claim.
he said if i call Infinti to bitch that i can get the engine in 1-2 weeks if i dont it could take over a month.
any advice??

If you bitch and get replacement now, instead of being put on list for next shipment from Japan, make sure your replacement is part # 10102-AC7M9.
Do not accept # 10102-AC7M1. That is their first fix attempt of which mostly is a remedy failure and is not the 'hand built from Japan' version which is much more successful so far. #10102-AC7M1 would be or possibly be over-stock and readily available VQ replacement. That happened to a Z owner recently. He caught it and is now getting most recent replacement in use, so beware.

Don't quote me on actual cylinder #'s, but remember reading something about a consecutive problem with two cylinders in the VQ on my350Z's OC thread.
And it was on the factory and/or first remedy attempted VQ, not the current ones from Japan.
Being Nissan/Infiniti has not gone public with this OC plague, there is no offical announment, to my knowledge, as to the cause of this issue. Only what is posted here on Driver and My350Z from members.
And speaking of this not being publicly known, I feel it's time for Nissan to be called-out on this issue by the government. Nissan has played this game for too long, imo.
See my thread on this issue and what we as customers/consumers can possibly do about it. It is our consumer right to report defective consumer products and equipment.

My engine will be here on the 30th and i told them NO M1. that it was M9 or back in line to wait some more. my Service guy said to get a new clucth and they will put it in for $20.
is it worth getting a new exedy or jwt without the flywheel. the noise would drive me insabe so i will have to skip it..... :-(

Tips for a new owner of a used G35?
I already put a deposit on a 2006 6MT Coupe with 17k miles. I'm suppposed to get the car in 5 days. Anything I should check up there? Any deal breaker?
I also will have to drive back home 75 miles. I hope I just don't get stranded on the road for lack of oil...that's ridiculous.

I'm seriously considering an '05 5AT or 6MT. The oil consumption issue has me very worried. Do we have any idea what percentage of G35s experience this issue? I understand that it's a design flaw so it seems like any G35s that do not currently experience the oil consumption are just lucky and it oculd start happening at any time.

I have asked this same question in a couple of different places now, and can't find a good answer. I am also still considering an '05 6MT, but if I can't get a good feel for how prevalent this issue is I will likely stay away from the brand altogether. Kinda sucks.

Look at the poll results at the top of this page.
Read up on all the OC threads.
I love my 06 6mt, but the OC is a pita. There are ones that don't have OC issues, so it's your choice not ours.
G/L on whatever you decide and enjoy.
