I then realized that i needed a power steering change since we havnt had one since i think 30K miles (now have 85K). So i called my nissan mechanic, i can take my car there and he does a little under the table work on my car (cost me $30 for full powersteering flush, condition, and refill). Anyways, i told him i was using royal purple this time and forgot to buy a mobil 1 filter so he gave me a OEM nissan filter, which actually looks the same as the mobil 1. We lifted the car on the lift drained the oil and replaced the filter and the oil. After i left $40.00 later the car is running SOOOOO much smooth than with the mobil 1.

An OEM filter looks nothing like an m1 filter once you take it apart, they are similar in construction to Frams

Is 0W30 thick enough for boosted cars?

You plan on running it hard when cold?

tru, the materials are different. I was refering to the little valve that sits inside the filter to hold the oil up in the engine...didnt specify that. Sorry

If you noticed all your readings progressively had lower readings. So your engine was just getting broken in as the mileage increased. You started with mobil 1 so i would run mobile run for a few more oil changes and see if you get the same results as the original times you used it. I bet youll get lower readings. If not i stand corrected but to truely make a statment you need to test the mobil 1 again.

I got a friend with a SC'ed Scion tC. He's sponsored by ptuning and uses that GReddy oil... it's actually BLUE! LOL Most importantly though... it is a Group IV oil

Here's a link:
GReddy 5w-30

I never used it myself, and my friend never did a UOA on it. So i dunno... looks good tho, i dont even have a G yet but will prolly be usin this oil after the first 7500 miles or so.

That 5w40 Greddy oil looks like good stuff but I would rather spend $1qt less and get Motul 8100.

Thanks for post. I'm now planning on using GC synth oil with an Amsoil oil filter. If I don't have to replace oil for 2 times then I'll be making money.

I agree that it can be seen as a downgrade that it's not made from a group IV base stock or whatever but at the same time if they are warranting the product the same, I can't see it hurting it's performance or durability too much. I worked as an intern at ExxonMobil where they formulated and tested the supersyn formula and I'm sure they did plenty of testing before they made the switch. They have cars there that just run 24/7 with Mobil1 (when I was there in 02, they had a bmw with over 1 million miles on it that they changed every 25K)

If you race your car or have it turbo-ed or supercharged, then maybe I can see switching, but I'm probably going to stick with it for now. At least until some real negatives are discovered from actual use of the new formula.

BMW oil is Castrol, but not GC 0w-30, at least not at the local dealer.
