REV Light & Overrevving?

Hey guys... I just wanted to share this with you! I was getting on the 10 FWY heading towards the 405 northbound and the ramp merged to form one lane. So this kid on a WRX next to me tried to cut me off and not let me through. So without even thinking it I downshifted to second and just took off.

What's funny is that he must've thought I was racing because he kept merging lanes to get behind me until I decided to make it a little "fun". I took my G up to 100 MPH (don't worry, it was late at night and the FWY was light on traffic) and that's was it. All I could see was his very far away headlights.

But this got me thinking... this happens a lot to me lately. Almost always that I'm next to someone with a "sporty" car they want to race, or think I do. Does that happen to you guys as well?

Oh yeah, I also wanted to ask you guys this: in the process, I didn't upshift in time and my redline light, flashed as it does when you're reaching the rev limit, but this time it actually stayed lit for about two seconds. (I think it was two seconds). I have it set to 7200 RPM and I think the max you can set it to is 7500 (right?) Could I have damaged anything by redlining it?

Thanks guys for your responses in advance.

nothing's wrong with redlining the car.. just as long as you don't ping off of it. However, I don't condone street racing.. or highway racing, a kill is a kill. Just try to keep it off the streets next time. Keep it safe, and keep it clean.

Completely agree with you iman. As I mentioned, I didn't really race as I just accelerated in my own lane with no one ahead of me.

Now, when you say as long as I don't ping off of it. What does that mean?

You know when you keep pressing down the gas pedal and you see the little bar on the rpm go to red line and bounce back? yeahhhhhhhhh I think thats what he means.

Thanks toogood; I'm not that familiar with the terminology. Actually, I think for a second there I might've done that. If I did, did I damage anything?

no.. it's not going to do anything unless you ping it off for a long time.. or you do it all the time. That's why there's a fuel cut off so that it doesn't do anything too horrible. but you should just take caution.

since your other question wasn't answered the flashing rev light is in approach of whatever you have it set to, it then will stay solid and stop blinking when you reach the set rpm

just hold down the pin in your dash there and cycle betweem the A and B trip meter and then it will be to where you can set your rev light. I think you can actually set it past red line at like 8 so it never goes off..thats what i do

Stock WRX's just dont come close to the power of the G35.

They have a superb launch, just like any STi, but lack power after that.

I really want to race one at the track; Sadly, all I get to race are Evo's and STi's. Yeah, STi's & Evo's kill me on the launch (I still suck, but even though, it wouldnt matter), but after the the 1/8th mile, they just don't seem the gain any significant disntace.

In the other hand, i'm sure I could take a WRX

.

+1 . . . Likewise, these 'Driver boards frown upon the posting of personal street racing escapades. As always . . . Keep it safe and sane.

dudes in pimped civics always rev it up next to me. The wrx guys are no different; always driving like donkeys in traffic.

I stay cool, no reason to prove anything.

Suggestion to the OP: this site does not condone street racing. As such, your thread would have been deleted if it weren't for the legitimate rev related question.

I've changed the title and wanted to let you know.
