Comparison facts about G35 Sedan and Coupe HP

Note: Before I begin I'd like to state couple things.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the Technical and Modifications Forum. Discuss the racing abilities of the both cars, technical aspects, modding potential, whatever.
However, if anybody posts this dumba$$ "It's still 20HP difference" or whatever crap, it will show his ignorance, lack of knowledge and inability to follow technical aspects and information obtained DYNO and 1/4 mile slips. Please show respect to both G35 cars on this board.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, lets start with another important note:
All numbers below are based on both STOCK cars (SAE) DYNO obtained from members.

G35 auto coupe dyno: 222whp (considering average based on 220-225)
G35 auto sedan dyno: 217whp (considering average based on 216-218)
Difference: is what? 5whp .

Comparison:
Note: Manual cars drivetrain loss is between 15-18% and auto between 20-22%.

Coupe: ------------------
222whp / 0.79 (21% auto average drivetrain loss) = 281 crank hp

Sedan: ------------------
217whp /0.79 (21% auto average drivetrain loss) = 275 crank hp.

Now keep in mind an additional weight difference by coupe being heavier then sedan.

Source - Infiniti.com
G coupe: 3,422 lbs - auto leather model
G sedan: 3,369 lbs - auto leather model
----------------------------------------
53 lbs auto vs. auto in sedan favor

So as you can see the sedan horsepower is underrated to be 260 as Infiniti claims and looks like 275.

1/4 mile times has been observed:
AUTO coupe 14.3-14.6
AUTO sedan 14.3-14.6
The difference based on launch RPM, MM or AUTO mode, track condition, etc.

Finally, at the time of posting I only had numbers for both AUTO only. However if 350Z typically DYNO at 233-234whp and 6spd G35 coupe and sedan not that far off I dont think it would be too difficult to calculate actual numbers by yourself and compare both again.

By the way, the weight difference in that regards is minimal.

G coupe: 3,435 lbs - 6MT leather model
G sedan: 3,398 lbs - 6MT leather model
--------------------------------------
37 lbs manual vs. manual in sedan favor

Good luck!

I don't think it's quite beating the dead horse, as it's never been diffinitively answered, I believe. I regret making that animation now Many post based on their opinions and seat-of-their-pants dynos... someone has done the math this time. Good post.

Re: Comparison facts about G35 Sedan and Coupe HP

Who cares about only the horsepower values?

I think the comparison between HP, TQ, and RPM is more important. Dont forget that Horsepower, Torque, and RPM values are all important in this discussion and not only Horsepower since they are all directly linked.

Did you ever noticed that the Coupe is "listed" with 280HP @ 6200RPM and 270 lb-ft @ 4800 RPM.

The Sedan is "listed" at 260HP @ 6000RPM and 260 lb-ft @ 4800 RPM.

It is the shape of the dyno curve that is also important not just the peak horsepower values.

And did you think it was a coincidence that the torque and horsepower curves always tend to cross (equal each other) around 5200RPM?

Its all so complex and blended together why bother getting into it?

Horsepower and torque always cross at 5252rpms as one is a factor of another. You can take torque at any rpm and calculate hp and vice versa. If on a dyno they don't cross at 5252rpms, it's because the hp and torque scales are different.

True, the dynos are good in this instance, so it's a little different than previous posts. Still, whenever posts like these are made, it's almost always construed as "sedan owners trying to justify their buys."

While these facts may bring a smile to my face (as a sedan owner), I don't think it's all that necessary since my sedan makes me smile all the time anyway. To each his own...

Re: Comparison facts about G35 Sedan and Coupe HP

The only problem I see is that there's an assumption that the drive train loss for the coupe and sedan are the same. Is it possible that the coupe and sedan have different losses?

Re: Comparison facts about G35 Sedan and Coupe HP

good post. hard to argue with math and hard statistics. I have heard timing is different, but based on dynos and 1/4 runs, doesn't seem to make that much of a difference.

You'll get it soon if you all coupe owners still not convinced.
