UR Pulley worth it??

I read some posts and discussion about it.
Anyone that actually installed it want to comment on it??
Should I buy just one or the whole set?

Re: UR Pulley worth it??

All u need is the crank pulley. The others are just for looks. I really want to add a crank pulley but the stock pully has a damper. The UR pulley does not. I believe the damper is there for a reason even though our engines are internally balanced so I don't think I'm going to get one.

You should PM Gsedanman as he did this recently to his car.

Re: UR Pulley worth it??

Hi guys, not got my crank pulley in yet. Still waiting for delivery , but anxious to get it modded.
I understand there is some controversy on this mod, but my dealer has a positive attitude toward it and I'm going ahead with it.
As soon as it's in I'll post my impressions and how the install went.

Re: UR Pulley worth it??

I just ordered one from jenny/jason@performance. Should be here in a couple, three days and I might be able to install them this weekend, if I'm lucky.

I just hope that the old one won't be stubborn and come out without much of a fight.

I have just a hint of fear regarding this issue of internal balancing but there are a lot of 350z guys with a lot of miles with this mod on that haven't had any problems.

Re: UR Pulley worth it??

One of the main concerns I have about the pulleys is the durability and possibility of a noisy belt, start up, idle.......

Do you guys think it is worth it?

Re: UR Pulley worth it??

Hey Guys,

We've have been selling the UR pulleys for 6 years now, mainly for the 300ZXs. We have never had a problem with them so far, nothing what-so-ever. The 350Z guys were also scared, but after a few months, they are one of our best sellers. On our 1990 Twin Turbo, i have had one on there for 5 years, and boosting 16-17psi daily, NO PROBLEMS. There was also a post on twinturbo.net (largest 300ZX forum) about the UR pulley not causing any damage on drag Zs. In my opinion, the UR Pulley, and the JWT Pop Charger/350Z intake tube are the best bang for the buck.

Re: UR Pulley worth it??

I got mine about 2 weeks ago from Concept Z Performance - www.conceptzperformance.com. It's been in for about a week. Install was easy on my 6MT sedan But, I was pretty confident going into the install after reading other peoples' experiences. The crank pulley bolt is very tight. I needed a breaker bar with a 2 foot extension to get it off. I probably would have been a little afraid to apply that much torque to the bolt if I had not read that that was the way to do it.

Sorry no dyno showing gains from the pulley. I have Kinetix Plenum and Hi-flow Cats on the way and will re-dyno once those are installed. I have a baseline dyno as stock with just K&N drop in filter. And another dyno, with a DIY pop charger, GroundingGear 6-wire kit, and stock exhaust resonator replaced with a 24" resonator. Should have the next dyno within a few weeks.

However, initial impressions are that it made a difference I could feel. No negative changes noticed like vibration or anything like that. I'm glad I got it.

There is also lot of discusion on the UR Pulleys on my350z.com.

Re: UR Pulley worth it??

I've had the whole set on for a couple months now. No problems at all. The gains can be felt. The stock pulley is NOT a 2 piece unit with a rubber dampener between them like the old style. All it has is a .125" wide groove around it on the radiator side with a square rubber o-ring in it. That is there to minimize any whirring sound from the belt contact. It does nothing to dampen crank resonance. All the crap about bearing wear and crank failures come from use of these on older V8 engines or on BMW straight 6 motors. The straight 6 has a very long crank and does have alot of flex and snapback that needs to be damped. The VQ crank is shorter than most inline 4's so the amplitude of any resonance is minimal. Hence the single piece crank pulley and minimal damping. Put the UR pulleys on and enjoy the torquey gain. No worries.

Well, if the stock pulley doesn't have a dampener on it then I see no reason not to get it? I have been told by a very reliable source that it did so I don't know what to believe. I wish someone could post pictures of the stock pulley for comparison to the UR.

==
3 weeks after crank pulley installation, i get belt noise mostly on cold morning start ups, say 25% of the time? the belts are gates micro v k040353 and k060445. a side note: when installer first started the engine right after the install, the belts squeeled loudly and didn't go away, he had to shut down the engine. he said the belts were loose and needed to be adjusted.....overall, revs faster from my unscientific eyeballs.
