Do any of you guys actually use that thing? I tried it when I first got the car but it ticked me off right away. "Don't tell me when to shift gears, I KNOW when I want to shift gears!". So I set it to 8000 and I've never heard from it again.

it's useful sometimes when you can't focus your eyes on the tach, but you can easily see the blinking light in the peripheral vision

If anyone's been driving manual for more than a year and still need a tach or shift light to tell them when to shift during normal driving, they need to trade in for an auto...

+1

The only time I used was to race, and I set it at 6700 RPMs cuz I don't want to get near 7K RPMs

^^ I use it not to tell me when to shift, but to let me know I'm getting close to or at redline

Real Effect Velocity...

I used it during break-in. Now to let me know I'm near red-line as said before.

its the shift light, if you read your owner's manual it should tell you how to set it.

I was just thinking the same thing... my G is an auto, but every MT I've owned I've shifted by the sound of the motor... if you need a light (or ever the tach) to tell you when to shift something is seriously wrong!

The 2003 did not have this option right? I don't see it on mine...

Anyway it seems it would only be useful to let you know you're near the redline... well actually not even then because if you don't know the VQ is near it's redline then you're deaf because it's effin loud!!
