AEM Wideband

Getting ready to install the AEM wideband. Can I splice into the factory wideband rather than weld in a new bung? Or will that affect impedence and voltage, throwing off the sensor?

You have to weld a new bung.

I traced the factory wires to the ECU and spilced into them there. Works like a charm with no adverse affects. So there is no need to weld in a new bung on a car with a factory wideband.
Although I don't know how this would work with a system that has an interface like an Innovative o2 setup. But the AEM UEGO works flawless.

BTW, I have the necessary wiring information for anyone interested in doing this themselves.

Did you splice a wire for only the 0-5v input (if so which terminal number is it?), or did you splice all 5 signal wires? (if so do you know which colors/terminals correspond with which wires to the uego?)

I'm trying to see if there is signal wire that goes from 0-5v that I can splice a digital A/F gauge into, so far no luck going through the wires that are for bank 2....

I spliced all five wires. Here is the wiring to make an UEGO work.
Make sure you disconnect the battery and unplug the ECU first
Don't just follow my diagram(unless you don't mind running wires all the way through the engine compartment to the harness), be sure to check my work as you go. I found the necassary wires back at the ECU side with my digital multi-meter, checking for continuity with proper colored wires between the ECU and the o2 harness.
As far as the 0-5v wire I didn't log voltages when I was testing. You can find it with the engine running probing the wires with your digital multi-meter, never test with an analog meter.

this should be stickied.

I'm going to try to do the same with my PLX wideband and use the stock ECU

so you went by the color of the wires from the wideband already on the car right and traced them back to the ECU wires?

then you looked at the snap in plug that came with your AEM I'm assuming and spliced it in while at the same time measuring to be sure that proper voltage was going through ?

oh and my car has 4 o2 sensors, which is my wideband?

Voltage was always fine though I never did any resistance testing, I have had no problems. The readings seem very accurate, pretty much stoich at idle and cruise.

hmm if only I could figure out what matched up on my PLX unit to your wiring diagram.

Take the wiring harness from your PLX, make note of which color wires it crosses over to at the sensor harness. Now do the same with the factory harness. Now just look at what you've written down and wire it up accordingly. Make sense?
